Report location New York > Central South Shore
Fishing method Surf
« Previous Report Next Report »

Attempted to fish the beach last night with a buddy from work. Got there at the start of incoming, 6pm. Rough seas lots of white water (perfect), water a bit dirty (ok), decent amount of weeds (manageable), 30 mph winds sweeping down the shore (unfishable). Made about 10 or 15 cast with 3 oz of metal and called it. Not sure if I had a hit or not could not tell with the wind. No other fishermen in sight, nor any activity. Will try again tonight if the wind lets me.

I agree Railroad Mike. I wish I had known about this before I paid my annual subscription fees. I already changed my subscription from automatic to manual and I will no longer subscribe to this website. I want information without being specific. Atlantic Ocean and Long Island Sound doesn't work for me. It's become a braqgging board.

It's so sad what happened to the reporting. Why don't we just say South Shore & North Shore. We could even just say Long Island & it wouldn't matter. It would be just as vague as western south shore or Central South shore. You would be reporting a fishing area of 40-50 miles, anyway. It's really very discouraging for us newbies. I thought the policy of Noreast.com is to encourage more surf fishermen. This reporting policy doesn't do much to do that. For new fishermen, we might need 5 years to find out where good fishing spots are. By that time they would just be fishing on party boats. Is this the intention of this new form of reporting? So what is the purpose now, just to brag & not help?

True...

I am sure it will be changed back when they review the site's web statistics drop at the end of a month or two. It's become a useless bragging board rather then a dynamic web based informative tool.

Yes, this is a for profit operation, there's nothing wrong with that, but read Jimboslice's post above. His assesment is far more accurate than yours. I don't see how you can say Noreast devoted itself to boat fishermen when a change was made that many surf casters were asking for Confused

I could not care less about spot burning. If I want to be specific about a hot location that I fished ,thats my business esp. if it helps other fisherman that have not been successful. True, it brings too many guys to one spot but what the heck- there are miles of beachfront and if you have not noticed most of those guys are weekend warriors ONLY! Just my opinion guys.

Edited out of sight

Having just sent in a post with both area-specific info (caught nothing) and a fishing report and questions about regs in that particular area (WE 2, told bad info by a police officer), I was screened and my report was eliminated.

I thought about this last year and now see the generic new area designations to "protect" us all. This is good up to a point but maybe we should A) be allowed to add a bit more detail and not get slammed off this site or B) maybe all reports should be delayed 24 or 48 hours.

If I wanted to know that fish were caught somewhere on the south shore during the month of May, I could get more info faster by... driving there and casting. Because that is where we are all back to.

This may get deleted so read quickly.
