Fishing method Boat

Headed back out to Montauk with good friends Bill(reelcranky) and Jay(JC30967)to meet up with Mike(Brooklyn keeper) and chuck on the Captree Princess.Well everyone knows who has read my reports I am working my way around the Charter and open boat fleet.I will also tell you there is no secret that there is no other Party boat captain that I would rather be south of Block with then James(squirt)Russo.I have fished with him for sometime now and his enthusiasm and experiance for catching bottom fish is second to none. After catching tens of thousands of fish in his career he still gets excited like a kid on Christmas day when the cod start comin over the rails. You will share many laughs and enjoy an incredible fishing experiance when fishing with Capt.James.

A few words about the Captree Princes. Its been A few years since ive been on her and I must say OH MY GOD!Capt.Rob A owner of the boat did some JOB IN MAKING HER SUPER COMFORTABLE.The boats heating system is as good as whats in my house,it had to be turned down several times as it was super toasty. There is bench and table seating for 36 paasengers, with overhead racks for everones gear.On the outside there is the standard bech but a massive amount of room for the mates to get by when attending to customers needs as your standing at the rail.Up top ther is 28'or so per side of cushioned bench seating enclosed with clear canvas that blocks the wind.A very nice place to sleep on the ride in.With double anchoring system and tripple diesels the big 78' yank slips along quite nicely.I was invited up into the wheel house and there is more than enough electroinics to find a few cod.The princess will fish 36 people on 1 side with comfort as we were forced to do on this trip.I must say this is a beautiful slightly older boat to fish on.

The fishing,we arrived at Gateway with 5 or 6 boats already set up so Capt.James just kept going. He didn't feel there was enough room to get in and didn't want to deal with the traffic. We were first to arrive on the further east grounds and the boat circled a few times and anchored. We were exactly where Capt.James wanted us and marking heavy but we only picked a few fish.Once the sun came up we re adjusted re set the hook and then it started. One here 2 there a good pick of market cod that only got better. We were fishing rite next to the FISH N EXPRESS who also had a good pick going. After a few hours there was 6 or 7 boats steaming our way and thats when Capt.James dropped the chum pot and told 2 mates to start cracking clams heavy and peoples jaw dropped when they saw how much chum was bieng thrown over the side.Numerous other boats arrived and RESPECTFULLY drifted all around us and the Fish exptress but we had them chummed up so good rite in between us that they coulnt catch like we were. There was just enough room to yell and talk with the guys on the express but not enouh for any one to make a drift in between. It couid have been done but the other captains showed enough respect not to be foolish.I have to say ive been on both sides of that game and it really is fustrating for the captains trying catch a few fish.We had a great morning bite of mostly keeper fish to a few in the teen size when James blew the horn and said lets hit another couple spots.I and many others were plenty satisfied with there catch already.

We ran off 6 or 7 miles and made some drifts caught a few fish but no what the Capt.was looking for.Ran another 5 miles back to another spot made 2 drifts and plenty of fish were flying over the rails.Capt James had the mates throw the hook and then started chumming. The starboard bow had great action with 8 -12 lb fish as all we could catch in the port toward the sten were shorts and I mean a ton of shorts.Well the guys that didn't do as well were let in up there and we picked away for another hour until it was time to go home.By this time I was already socializing and enjoying my beverage of choice a cold HEINEKEN and didn't need to put any more in the box.

Today it was just about all bait fishing,I did jig one and RC Bill had a couple on the Iron. Its hard to get them to chase that jig when there is that much clam scent in the water.I did not see one herring be spit up by the cod and was suprised at that as we read plenty of bait on the fish finder. There was an older gentelman that I did not get his name who I fished next to for a while.Well this man didn't have your typical technique and he caught probably better than any one.2 hook bait rig tight to the bottom 1 at 6 inches abve the sinker and another 12 inches up.This man never stopped jigging the rod,he looked like he was popping a 1/2 oz.bucktail for fluke. He would only stop to set the hook in a cod.Man did he catch,I tried it and it helped improve my score as fishing was slow.

On a final note we had 2 captains aboard Rob and James and they both enjoyed the day as much as the customers. Also 4 experianced mates that were as good as it gets.I am a self sufficiant fisherman but its nice to have help if the need arises every time I turned around and didn't ever ask for it.The pool fish was around 17 pounds and there was plenty of 8 to ten lbers to go around. There were plenty of cod iver the rail and almost Every one caught very, very well. There were many smilin face on the Captree princess today,I had a helluva time thats for sure. All fish were cut before arriving at dock which every one was pleased to see.If you needed help to your car the mates provided that service also.It was nice to see many of my Old friends from the Seaotter V days like Johnny smokes,Mr.La and Thomas. The cod are at Block,so pick a boat and get there.I for on will be spending numerous more days on the Captree princess with Capt.Rob and James.

Remeamber,Im all for fillin coolers. But it is up to us that we have a season next year. Please we must self police ourselves and take only what you really need.

Next stop im CQ bound to see some friends over there but Ill be back on the Captree Princess!!!

Capt.Rob owner of the CP takin a minute to jig up a cod..

Johnny smokes gettin it done up in the bow!!!

Another happy angler with a nice cod.

Rob: Wonderful reportup. Thanksup for sharing with everybody.
GladToungueToungue you had a great day. Of course with Squirtup at the helm,
you were in very capable hands. He'll find fish where nobodyRollRollRollRoll
else can. Naturally with Capt.Robupup out there it only adds more
fuel to the fire to locate them Codup. Hope to be out there after
the open wounds on my leg heal after having a skingraft. All the best to you Rob, & the great Captainsupup & CrewToungueToungue of the Captree
Princess. GOD BLESS.....

We all have a Little Kid inside of us.  It's called FISHING.....
