Fishing method Boat

My buddy Mike & I ran his 23 Grady Gulfstream from Southold to MTK yesterday. The ride out in the AM was flat and smooth and he pushed the boat almost FULL open all the way 40mph.

We made it around to the south side and fished in the area of party boats. Fluke was out main target as it was the final day, and we were both chomping at the bit for it as neither of us had fluked much this year.

Marked tons of bait and began bailing skates and sand sharks. Mike snagged a short fluke of about 14" We then ran further inshore and tried it shallower and I was rewarded with my 1st keeper at a hair over 21".

I had a tip to try out deeper by some pot bouys and as the action waned in the area we were working I headed out that way where coincidentally I saw a small fleet working.

Almost immediately on the first drop there I had a a nice 2lb seabass there and we stayed there working the area for several hours to come. Sea bass weren't huge but we ended up with 17 keepers to 3.5 lbs, most being around the 2lb mark. There were also enough keeper size porgies and smaller ones in the mix too. we kept 9 decent size porgies. I also caught another keeper fluke of exactly 21" this time on just a squid strip on the sea bass rig.

Unfortunately those 3 fluke is all we saw all day on the fluke front but I was glad that i8 had my limit on the last day anyhow. Also jigged 4 blues for giggles.

we threw back twice as many fish as we kept, we had great action all day. the ride home was bumpy across Block Isl. Sound to Gardeners Isl and back to Greenport.

LOTS of insane bird life and blues blitzing in the north rips. Sky was BLACK with birds! Fall action is getting underway with these passing storm systems rolling through.

We'll be heading again this Saturday 9/11, can't wait!
