Those old folks among us...remember that song by the Fugs, the Nothing Song? (RIP Tuli.....) Well, that describes this summer's fishing since mid-July. Last night I got back out to Cutchogue for the 1st time in 2 weeks (taking the kids to grad school and college). Again, nothing. Had a snapper and a hit from a weakfish that wasn't much bigger. That's action these days. I got a nice 3 lb bass on the Sound last time out, but my kids have the cars and they're busy, so I had to stay local. The upside is the crabs! All season long, since early July, they have been alternating...1 week 10% keepers, next week 50% keepers. Well, this was a 10% week...but I still have 12 in the fridge. Unusually, half my throwbacks are females. (Southold doesn't allow any females). I never minded that rule, as hardly any crabs were female, and those that were were small. Not this year...lots of large females. A very good sign.
