Its so bad that the return of the peanut bunker doesn't help. First time I have seen peanut bunker here in 3 years. Well, last week also. Decent size...and nothing hitting on them. Normally, peanuts in the channel at dusk would lead to hooking up with 10-30+ bluefish, and, depending on the tide, maybe a weakfish or 2. This year? Nothing. Undisturbed. Its just too hot. I did manage to catch 2 snappers, not much larger than my lure...first fish I've caught in 2 weeks or more. On the plus side, I picked up 3 knobbed whelks (scungilli). Glad to see them back. They have been very scarce the last few years. After recovering from the brown tide, the live market decimated them. (And obliterated toadfish. A fish I used to see along every 10-20 feet of shoreline has been unseen for a decade. Nobody seems to care about regulating an ugly fish that fights as hard as seaweed when its hooked...)

Every dog has his day, brother. Your area is still one of the nicest coastal areas around.

So much to ponder. So few brain cells to achieve the mission.

wait 3 weeks

water is too warm now
try the sound side late night or wait 3 weeks for the peconics to cool off.
Visit a winery or the brewery in greenport till then.

Liveline the snappers in a channel. Somebody has to be the first to find the weakies.

I'm across from you in North Sea. I don't even go to the beach at the end of my road anymore.
