Report location New York > Western Sound > CQ- Capt Neil Invitational 7-11-10
Fishing method Boat
« Previous Report Next Report »

Yesterday was the first Capt Neil Invitational where all the fishing was done using Capt Neil built rods. The idea was hatched by Jay (JC30967) as a way to acknowledge the great guy that Capt Neil really is. This was a way for all involved to show appreciation for all his generosity and kind-heartness. Capt Neil is the first in line to donate to a cause or run a charity raffle, etc-etc-etc. Even yesterday on his own charter, he donated a Maximizer rod to the pool winner worth $180.00. I was very happy to be part of it, although I'm in big trouble at home.

As a sidebar to all the festivities, the fishing was great. Capt Desi started out fishing closer to home than in past days, the pick was slow and steady, mostly small fish. At about 11am we made the move east, arriving to slack tide. The sun was blazing hot and no real breeze made the drift difficult. At 1pm, Capt Desi made one last move across from the nuclear plant, the tide turned and it was a bale job for 1 1/2 hrs. Most of the keepers were caught during this time, loads of almost keepers went back and we left them biting hard. We would have stayed longer, but the CQ was booked for a 4pm charter, we hit the dock at 4:20pm, oh well!!! The boat finished the day with over 700 fluke caught and 57 keepers, 3 short of a boat limit, great day had by all.

A special thanks to Capt Desi who always makes these kind of trips special. The good Captain for being a good guy and building rods so hacks like me can afford a good CUSTOM built rod, and Jay for thinking this one up.
