Report location New York > New York Bight > Morning Star Southern Togs are chewin!!!
Fishing method Boat
« Previous Report Next Report »

With the beautiful forecast decided to take the long haul down South to Maryland with My buddy Pat AKA bellyup1.Hit pats house about 12:30 am and had a few ribeye steaks for breakfast then headed south.Arrived at the boat first grabbed our designated spots and met my other friend Randy Brown AKA Brownboy then took an 1hr and 20 minute ride to the grounds Capt.Monty made 6 drops on the day with 2 of them being very productive for myself and friends. The 3 of us combined for 22 keeper tog,and 1 codfish keeping 9 tog and the cod for the box then tagging and releasing many for research.Kept mostly males and let the girls go.Pat and I took 1st and 2nd place in the pool with the 2 biggest tog of the day that went 10.14 and 10.7 lbs.The pool goes by lenth on the Morning Star this way you can release a big tog if you would like.Unfortunately both our big fish were not in good shape and Could not be reeased and Capt.Monty advise to box them.We fished 75-85 foot depths and found no life in shallower water.

ALL and all another great day on the water spent with friends catching a few double digit tog made the 290 mile drive home that much easier.Spring Toggin is here and they should be chewin for that last week of April locally. It really sucks that we cant fish May in New York but hey get in your truck and head south,You won't be dissapointed!

myself and Pat (bellyup1) with 10.14 and 10.7 lb. Tog.

Myself 10lbs 14 ounce tog.

Brownboy, they got cod down in Maryland also!

Capt.Monty tagging then releasing a small female tog.

Capt.Monty Hawkins Morning Star.

On any bottom fishing boat in NY or NJ or RI or MA. But, the fish Clownboy is holding up is a codfish.

Wish I was able to join you two down there. Some sick toggin those southern boys have, next winter we have to take a few days and go show those good ole boys how toggin is done Shades

REALLY wish I went, just for the car ride home. It sounded over the phone like that fuzzy math was in full effect again Toungue
