Report location New York > Montauk > SEAOTTER IV BEST CODFISHING OF THE SEASON IS HERE!!!
Fishing method Boat
« Previous Report Next Report »

Received a call from Capt.Joel Lizza of the Seaooter IV about 8pm Monday night, said we have a trip going there is room grab a friend and come, fishings been excellent.Well I new that since I was out Sunday but once I looked at the weather I cancled evrything I had to due for Tuesday.Called my Buddy Jay who is on vacation and twisted his arm slightly and at 12:30 am the truck was loaded and we were headed to Snug Harbor marina Rhode Island.

Arrived at the boat First threw are stuff on and within 15 minutes everybody else had arrved and we were headed South East towards the Block Island cod grounds. After a beautiful flat ride out we arrived in the fleet,I already saw many rods bending and said yeah baby.Capt.Joe made a few circles and found a pile, dropem guys.Well it doesn't get any bertter than this the second your sinker hit the bottom there were insta bites and the entire boat was hooked up at once.As I looked what was coming up most of them were double headers.Drop em again same results. The first 2 drifts were just sick with DROPEM AND YOU GOTEM RESULTS.The bite slowed a bit and turned into a very, very good pick when you got over a pile.We had a decent tide but 12 to 16 oz.lead was good or a 8 to 10 oz.jig if you wanted to catchem that way worked also.Rite around 9:30 I heard 3 toots and the ROSIE WAS ALREADY HEADING TO THE BARN.That is how good the fishing was yeaterday.

Highlights of the day were, the 2 lovely ladies Debbie and Denay that caught there 20 cod and showed us a thing or two with the pool winner around 21 lbs.Another nice site was all the boats very tight to each other and working together to get on the piles. Also this was the best quality of fish this season,There was no need to measure,if it was close you tossed it back and got another one.Sometime late Morning the bit got tougher but we stil picked and the mate Jeff did a count and informed Capt.Joel we were almost there.I heard last drift make it count and with one last volley we had what we needed.

Absoludtly best weather day all year and some of the best codfishing of the season was yesterday. It was really nice to be on the Seaotter and not getting our arses kicked in 5 to 7 footers like last trip lol. Many Thanks to Capt.Joel lizza for the invite and doing an incredible job handling the boat and keeping us over fish.Another thanks to the mate Jeff on a job well done and my good friend Jay for joining me making the trip that much more enjoyable. It was nice seing all the familiar faces on the other boats who gave a wave or hello.

Just to let everybody know the Seaotter IV is available for 1 to 20 person charters and will be making OPEN BOAT TRIPS AS THE WEATHER ALLOWS.They are a premium sponsor here on Noreast and ck there for more information.

Sorry guys the memory chip slipped on my camera and not 1 picture wass recorded. Its March fellas, dont know how long this bite will last.Beautiful weather coming from Friday on.THE TIME HAS COME TO GET SOUTH EAST OF BLOCK AND GET YOU SOME COD!!!

This was from last season, but it was very similar to Tuesday.

Great report, hope the fishing stays good another week or so, have a trip in mind for wed the 10th. , weather permitting. Figured one of the women would take the pool! EITHER A WOMAN OR KID, NEVER FAILS! lol You guys had a moon tide, should have been able to hold with 10 or so ounces in calm conditions?

Good to see you out there Rob,even if it was from 50 ft away.
It was nice to be out there fishing in just a sweatshirt.

Rob & Jay---you two fish entirely too much---I don't like it.
It's simply not fair for the rest of us.

Stop it.
Stop it now.
