Yesterday Sat May 16th we did our first North Fork trip of 2009 on my buddy Mike's 23' Grady WA. out of POE marina.WE caught our limit plus one (released of course).

We wanted to bass fish as well as fluke but it didn't happen due to heavy fog conditions. We were so immersed in the fluke fishing that by afternoon when we wanted to go to the Gut fog rolled back in off the ocean with stronger South winds, that was the end of that idea. So we just continued fluking until all the bait was gone!

We worked the Green lawns right south of the marina in the early morning because the fog was thick. Caught a couple of 19-19 3/4 inch fluke there but action wasn't quick at all and too many boats! So we headed east for a bit toward Greenport and it took a little while to locate them but we got on top of some steady life.

We landed 5 keepers all day to 6 1/4 lbs working over one area with allot of life not many boats either we mostly had it to ourselves. I was even casting up drift with spinning gear during slack and kept BANGING fish including GIANT row packed porgies all 2-3 lbs in a BUCK TAIL just tipped with squid. (porgy season opens next Sunday the 24th!) I did catch the 5th keeper fluke that way casting the buck tail up drift, nice 21 1/2 inch fluke. I think I hooked and landed about 12 or more fluke that way alone, and many more using more traditional tactics FUN!!!! Mike also had a good day landing about a dozen fluke and many more by catch species. Action was great!Awesome way to catch a big fish lots of fun! They really SLAM the buck tail that way it's AWESOME!

GOING BACK out again tonight and staying until Weds!!!! Fishing for 3 says!!! We just had to return home for today so mike could coach his son's baseball team and have a little b'day party for him too! I CAN"T WAIT to get back out there!YAHOOEY!!!!!!!!!What a great vacation! I've caught a bunch of bass already, fluke, blues, porgies! YAHOOOOO!!!!!!Ain't going back to work until memorial day!!!!!YAHOOOO!!!!!!!!!

Nice one Mike!!
