Cold day today,Only had a few hours to kill ,so no Mooses for me.Got to the beach around 6:00am N to NW winds, morning starts and there's like thousands of bird in the air,so i thought "i came out in this cold, now I'm going to get rewarded".Took the walk to the jetty and 20 minutes later i was casting that green A27 with Iplayfair's green gamagatsu teaser, first cast,hit!!... broke the line?,there goes my A27 with teaser,ok... put my green A17 with a green gamagatsu teaser, cast again hit, broke the line ,I'm like WTF??!!! (I looked like Wayne a couple weeks ago:)) Bottom line the ceramic part of the tip guide was broken missing a piece it was so sharp it was cutting the line, had to go to the car get my st.croix and go back.

Now no more green diamond jigs,no more teasers and already tired from walking and cold (making teasers in this cold was not fun). When i went back the birds were gone, and no fish,i got 1 schoolie on the beach, after yesterday getting 1 schoolie is like a skunk.Didn't give up and went on the jetty,5 minutes there with 1 more guy and a seal shows up,that was it for me,i took the 20 minutes walk back cursing at myself looking at the ocean and wondering,"where would Martin Fish magnet fish?"lol

Anyway not a good day.

BTW water was murky, saw some guys catching schoolies on bucktail, bomber and a herring spoon.

Good luck

Dave the Wildman

good effort, you are a better man than I. I woke up at 5am started to get dressed, heard the wind blowing and turned on the weather channel and it said 28 degrees - back to bed I went.
Herring should be here any day now and the big boys will be right behind them. Best time of the year is upon us, it's like the fireworks at the end of each Disney day - can't what to see them, then sorry it's over. Looking forward to the fireworks!!!!! Bammmm

I had the same problem with a cracked tip-top last month, lost five lures and one cow before I caught on. At least the weather was warm for retying leaders

Herring

Nice effort and sorry to hear about your rod. About the herring if anyone fishes the western sound on the long island side or is willing to make the trip PM me if you want to fill up on some live herring. I don't care about spot burning because they are only there a short time anyway and you need a boat to get to them. A lot of people on this site have been sharing some good ideas and techniques all year and I feel like I haven't done as much as some other people.

Herring

I cant wait, I was lucky enough last year (was awaiting my green card) to be able to fish WE2 when the herring was around. I had only ever seen a blitz on tv the blues and strippers had them pushed against the beach and fish were jumping every where. I had a day I will never forget.
As for the end eye that just sucks dude, some days no matter how hard you try it all goes against ya ... then some days when you least expect it it turns out to be a fish tastic event... That's what makes us that live to fish keep comming back...

Good luck and tight lines I live in hope to see the herring again ...

Thank you for the kind words, the rod will be fixed and ready to go,on a lighter note,i have been using this 11'Lamiglas rated 2-8oz,with a long but, and it really bother me at the beginning because it's a heavy rod with a lot of bone.Today i had to go back to my st.croix and i could not believe the difference,it was like i couldn't fish. When i got the schoolie it felt like a 10 pound blue on the 11',the butt felt to short and out of balance, also 3 oz bucktail felt to heavy. The 11' was lend to me by a friend that now will sell it to me has soon has i sell my st.croix.I guess i found out today that i'm a heavy bone rod guy,at least something positiveSmile

Never herd of the brand laminglass as we do not have them in the UK, I was lucky enough to be in kwaks looking for a pole for the beach, when i came accross this funny sounding pole picked it up and instantly bonded. I luv my laminglass its got the power all the way down to the but and a can feel the slightest tap they are great peice of kit

A good clue to the tip being worn/cracked is line fray and the line not coming in smootly to the reel.Inspect inserts often.Running a Q tip through the guides will find small imperfections. With those big herring around the big girls must be close. Now is the time.up

Great job and effort. The Q-tip trick is an excellent idea up. Best of luck finding that keeper Dave, and be careful you don't end up in the doghouse Roll.....It's cold in there this time of year.
