Spring Break for Tuna Hunter!

In an unprecedented spring break maneuver, Tuna Hunter was lured down to Islamorada in the Florida Keys for a few days of awesome fishing for bonefish, tarpon, dolphin and sailfish.

While it was hard to leave Gloucester Cod & Haddock Fishing, the timing was perfect to avoid some bad weather and high winds in the north. We took advantage of the weather window and low airfares, and jetted off to the Keys for a few days. Might as well bend a rod somewhere!

High winds in FL made for some challenging boating, but the desire to fish prevailed. Offshore, trolling to locate pods of dolphin, then casting to hook several of these turquoise wonders at each stop. Nothing beats the acrobatics of a snared dolphin ... twists ,flips, twirls and turns ... incredible!

Except, perhaps, to hook into a sailfish. That acrobatics show is also incredible. And for us New Englanders, a sailfish is a treat.

We are back in Gloucester! Our short, productive trip to the Keys has us jazzed for full-time New England cod & haddock fishing. The cod fishing for Stellwagen Bank and surrounding waters remains strong, with fish hitting a mix of jigs and clams. Haddock comprise the bulk of the catch. Charters are taking their limits of cod. Can't beat spring cod fishing out of Gloucester! Bluefin tuna have been spotted off of Virginia, and they are headed our way. Striped Bass fishing will be starting shortly as the linesiders move northward, followed by those bluefin tuna ... yeah!

Good fishing to you!
