Fished 4 days on 2 boats . 32 foot contenders with superb tackle and great captains

Stayed at Zancudo lodge which is a fantastic place near Golfito. The owners run a wonderful facility with all food included. The accomodations and meals were 5 star.

We fished 2 days out at a FAD 60 miles out and caught 3 blue marlin and 3 sailfish. This was reportedly slow for the area .

Other days we found large schools of yellowfin tuna(up to #100) and caught those on live blue funners.

Offshore within 30 miles of the dock we caughts sails but the season for these is building to a reported peak in March and April.

We fished inshore for parts of days and caught roosters but nothing very large .

In summary this is a special place with that fisherman and non fisherman would enjoy.

I will surely be going back

I fished there nearly 20 years ago when Roy Ventura, the original owner, was there. He tried to sell me the place. Great operation. Great fishing. Beautiful facilities. Long run to the offshore grounds. At the time, Roy had Costa Rican built center consoles that were solid and safe but pounded like hell in the afternoon slop on the 30-40 mile run. My back was broken every day by the time we got to the dock. Still, the sails were big and plentiful and the inshore fishing, especially off Matapalo rock, was lots of fun.

Costa Rica is a wonderful country, and Zancudo is a great place to experience it. Glad you had a great time.

Roy Zancudo Fishing Lodge

I fished at the lodge 13 years ago with a group of guys from Brooklyn. The place was great and the fishing awesome. Short ride out to the grounds, catching 5 -10 sails a day and many Mahi-Mahi. Those bathtubs with motors really pounded you though. I went to move the portable fighting chair from the stern to the bow and found out that the chair and base were 2 different pieces, had to run back and put it together while bouncing around. Would love to get back there!

Zancudo Lodge

The current owners are Goldine and Gregg. They are a husband and wife . Although Gregg was in the states Goldine was fantastic. They purchased the lodge around 2010 and spared no expense in renovating it. The rooms are very comfotable and the food is 5 star. All boats are contenders between 28 and 32" Tacke is top notch.
