My wife is from LI, I'm born and raised in Lauderdale, never lived anywhere else til I was 26. I fished EVERY SINGLE DAY... and ALWAYS caught fish. So I move here, thinking one of us has to lose, how bad can it be? Dear god... I have to assume that if you were born and raised here, and like it, you JUST DON'T KNOW ANY BETTER. Can't fault someone for this... but... this is definitely the worst place ever. I have now been to Ohio, Oklahoma, California, have family living in Carolinas and Tennessee, etc... Nothing more expensive, more corrupt, and filled with more "loud opinionated" people, than LI. As for the outdoors, I fished everyday, scuba dived and snorkeled whenever I could, did some spearfishing, etc... this place being an island, I figured I'd be ok... what a horrible place. It's not even freedom, and people think they are free. I literally could fish multiple canals, ponds, golf courses, everglades, you name it... explore dirt roads and fields... pay no fee to anyone, see no people fishing near me all day long, etc... etc... Every square inch of this place is trash... each town is a fee, or a permit, or a certain time only, etc... etc... Can't wait to move. And for those who are "proud" and want to tell me to take a hike... don't worry, I will, please stay here when you retire... nothing better in any other states.

Oh, and after the rant (sorry), I do find the lack of sharing info, being sneaky, and hiding these so called "magic spots" quite entertaining.

Well, your rant was a little nastier in tone than need be, but your points are not crazy. The problem all boils down to population density. Too many people in too little space. As a species, we've got to stop reproducing like mad.

Please do us all a favor and head back to the sunshine state where more then half the population is retired northerners or back woods swamp rednecks. As stated your points do hold merrit but there really isn't a need to generalize like yoy did. I have traveled to every state but five and find that most of the people around here are black and white with very little grey and tell you how they feel not like most people down south who pretend to be your friend and then stab you in the back. As much as I hate the daily BS that goes on around here you can keep you sunshine state with all its NY wanna bes I'll take an arogant SOB who has the stones to tell you where you stand any day of the week instead of some quivering redneck who is to afraid to tell you how it really is. That being said let me know when you are moving I will help you pack, throw a party for all of us,and then slam the door on your arse. P.S if your looking for a good spot to fish go to the south shore of the island and wade out about 1,100 miles SSW and find your old fishing grounds Tight Lines from one of those tell it like it is people

Be kind to kind people and kinder to mean ones, it really pisses them off

It is people like you that are making others who ejoy posting on this site not want to post anymore. There was no reason for you to rant like that what you were supposed to do was say something nice about the report it was tasteless and disrespectful to the person who took the time to write and share with us Noreasters who appreciate the reads. Save your rants for YELP and go back to Florida and enjoy the rest of your miserable life.

Flodida

I have been in Florida 6 1/2 years now. I fish the gulf out of Port Richey. The real difference is that in NY it is more fishing. In Florida, You catch not fish. If you go for a certain species, You will get something even if not what you are going for. We went today for grunts and wound up with Spanish Mackerel, grunts, Hog fish, Mango snapper, Red grouper, and Gag grouper(that we releleased unharmed).

I like to fish in both places. and the food is MUCH better in NY
