We fished on the party boat Salty Goat yesterday out of key west. It is a 50 ft open style boat that sails out of slip 7 in the galleon marina east of Mallory square on front street. It was originally one of the angler fleet boats out of NY. We steamed 40 min toward sand key light and made 3 drops in 30 to 40 ft on the reef. each drop was productive, instant bite flat lining or fishing on the bottom with a knocker rig. I caught 3 keeper mangos to 16 inches, 2 keeper tails and lots of grunts and throw back grouper. Some nice Spanish mackerel were landed via jigging and reeling off the bottom with 3 oz. bucktails tipped with squid strips. Some were also caught floating out ballyhoo on sm balloons behind the stern in the current. Hands on Capt Bruce and crew worked real hard to chum up a bite and take care of us. they also had excellent bait. The mate thru the net twice and got some live hoos . Great bar there and 100 lb plus tarpon hanging by cleaning tables. I learned a few tricks from a few of the regulars that were eager to dial me in. If anyone is fishing in the key west area and has room for me on a trip please contact me at 516-885-1932 or [email protected] Thanks
