I remember fishing in the mid 70's...
Capt. Bill of "the commodore", in island park.
caught the pool one day/9-3/4 fluke.
lol, spelt my name wrong in "The fisherman"!
also remember Capt. Bill, another p.boat down a few feet from commodore.
caught me the pool fish, cod @ 25 lb'er.
was sick in the cabin all morning. i remember reeling in the line, ice on it, waves 5-8, and taking a vote early in the am...who wants to stay/go, lol!
left line in water, went inside to "get sick", lol and some guy says...hey, is that your pole?
sure as sh-t, i reeled it in to get the pool...ahhhh the good old days, when we only had to go to cholera to catch DECENT sized cod. too bad, damn shame...at least the bass have made an awsome comeback...keeps me goin ><> ><> ><>

The party fishing boat "Optimist Queen" leaving Shark River Inlet, NJ in 1960. She sailed from Dodd's Basin in Belmar, NJ and was skippered by Captain Charlie Dodd. In the background is the old Belmar Fishing Club pier. The pier was partially destroyed by a hurricane in the 1980's and eventually torn down

a wreck now

an old one for us all
The "Bronx Queen" from Bronx, NY circa 1962. She was built in 1942 by the Mantis Yacht Building Company in Camden, NJ as the US Navy Submarine Chaser SC-635. After the war, she was sold as surplus and became the party boat "Yank" from Point Pleasant, NJ. She was sold to Captain Henry Williams in 1958 and became the "Bronx Queen". Captain Edwin Berlin took over the operation in the early 1970s. She sank on a gray and stormy December 20, 1989 while on her way home from a fishing trip for Whiting and Ling. Photo courtesy of Captain Dan Berg Wreck Valley Collection.
