Hello all....Question...Im looking to purchase a Montauk Tackle Company reel for my Striper boat fishing...More specifically the model no. 802-10w. Wondering if anybody out there owned or tried one yet. I know they are fairly new, unproven in the industry as of yet, but there is something to me about owning something from HERE and also they just look SICK. Any feedback is welcome!! thx

I just bought the Cerebus 3200 2 weeks ago and so far it works awesome. I haven't gotten to test it out on a sizable fish yet though.

A buddy of mine has one it did for him was gave him problems...go with a shimano or diawa easier to get parts and tested and proven on the fishing grounds.

*(edit)* or the avet....thats what these reels are based off of and they are actually made "here"
Why would you buy a reel thats trying to be something else when u can buy the original that every one compares it to? Theres only one Coca-Cola...and if thats what you want get Coca-Cola not RC or Pepsi

I agree, I know sombody that has 2 Montauk reels. He bought them because they "are just like the avets that you use" well I thought they looked nice so I tried them ,,I forget what model, I wasn't impressed.... by the end of last season he was the using a new avet because the montauk reeels failed him

Last years early release 802-10 and 802-15

Dear Fisherman.....

Early last year we had some RANDOM 802-10 and 802-15 that had a "Tolerance" issue in the DRAG cam.

I made more than good on my promise to correct the issue spending thousands to retro fit an entirely new internal cam and external cam knob. We have since addressed this issue and I think you will find our current product line to be up to the hardcore anglers' rigorous standards.

I am very happy to help ANY customer to upgrade these drag cams as the parts are in stock. We continue to improve our product line and listen to our customers. If you or any one who you know has any questions please call 646-397-FISH (3474).

Thank you very much

Montauk Fishing Gear is EXCELLENT!

Just a quick point of view from me....I've been fishing both fly and conventional...Salt and Fresh...for about 20 years now. Since my purchase of my Montauk Reel(802-10w) which looks sick in Gunmetal btw...I got to say...the customer service from them has been nothing short of remarkable. I've owned many reels and so on...but not one of them was I able to contact PENN, SHIMANO, DIAWA, AVET, and actually speak to not only someone who understood any issue I had...BUT(and here's the remarkable part) to actually talk to the guy who makes the reels...On his cell phone no less!!!! Now that SERVICE!!!
Great craftmanship...works like a dream for both fluke and stripers...even big shouldered blues!!! And I know if I ever need anything...even just someone to go fishing withWink...I could call Montauk with ANY problem....It will be taken care of!!! TRY ONE!
