The Frances Fleet had two boats out today. Seems the spring like temperatures brought eager cod fishermen out in force today. The weather was beautiful and the fishing was once again outstanding!

Capt. Mike reported his fares on the Lady Frances got into some real quality fish today, there were many fish in the 20 to 30 lb range with a couple bigger fish to nearly 40 lbs to fight it out for the pool. Long time regular customers Norm and Irene were pleased with their handsome pile of cod fish to over 20 lbs. The average size was over 10 lbs today. All fat green wild hunting cod gorging on herring. Both bait and jigs were working well today although the biggest fish of the day were caught on bait. Once again a good many anglers filled their sacs and coolers with the winter king. A few nice Pollock mixed in as well.

Capt. Don on the Admiral Frances was also impressed with the fishing today and reported his anglers were into some really good size cod fish as well with many fish in the teens and 20s and lots of pleased ground fishermen. The Lady Frances with the Admiral on standby are set to sail at 5am tomorrow morning.

Sunday, March 8th

The Frances Fleet once again had two boats out today as another spring like day and the great fishing brought anglers out in force. Some tough wind and tide issues today causing the lines to run very hard towards the back of the boat made things a bit more challenging but both boats still put together a good day of fishing. Capt. Mike on the Lady Frances had a good shot right off the bat in the morning then a brief slow down in the action but a move to a new area produced a very good pick of nice green cod that lasted a couple hours before slowly subsiding. A good number of anglers still filled their sacs and coolers to full. Again there were a lot of fish in the teens. Henry Booth from Bridgeport, Ct had the day’s best fish of 25 lbs just beating out another fish of 23lbs. Capt. Don aboard the Admiral Frances reported a solid day of local cod fishing as well with a steady pick of nice green fish and a couple drifts late in the day that were very good. A lot of good size cod on the Admiral as well with the pool fish just over 30 lbs and several other nice ones in the lower 20s. Next cod trip sets sail tomorrow morning at 5am aboard the Lady Frances.

Captain Mike reported another good day aboard the Lady Frances. The fish started to bite as soon as the boat got to the grounds. The actions was fairly steady until almost noon time. By then there were fish in everyone's coolers. Regulars Norm and Irene were there and teamed up for 15 codfish. We will be sailing tomorrow at 5 am. The rest of the week looks like very good weather. We will have two boats available for the weekend. Always remember to call the office first at this time of the year before heading down to the docks.

Wed. trip was not what we have been use to on the grounds. The weather came on and conditions were not favorable. We were do for a bad day but it still does make us feel any better. Captain Mike is back out today with a light load onboard. The weather is looking good for the next few days. In addition to the Lady Frances and the Admiral Frances this weekend the captain Frances will be sailing on a limited load cod trip at 4 am. Call the office for reservations for this trip.

Capt. Don said Friday was a much improved day over mid week. Anglers had plenty of fish to take home. The pool winner was Tom "the Chiropractor" with a 25lb codfish. Capt. Mike reported a very good day as well.. A much better day than the last couple of days. A slow start but things definately started improving by mid morning. It looks like the fish are back after taking a few days off. With 4 mates cleaning fish they were still cleaning at the dock for about another hour. Codfishing is far from over!

The LADY FRANCES and the ADMIRAL FRANCES sailed this morning with a very light load of anglers onboard. This was a surprise with the beautiful forecast and the good fishing reports. Perhaps people stayed away fearing big crowds. There were a lot of smiling faces from those that did show because there was plenty of room a the rails. We will have two boats sailing on Sunday morning as well.

Captain Mike and Captain Mike both called in this morning before 10 am to say that fishing was very good. Double headers of nice market cod were flying over the rails. We will have an updated report when the boats get back to the dock. The Lady Frances and the Admiral Frances will both be sailing Sunday morning at 5 am.

Captain Paul returned today from the limited trip on the CAPTAIN FRANCES with a boat full of happy fishermen.. The fish were there and waiting for him when the arrived on the ground before sun up. The coolers and bags started to fill up very quickly. Captain Paul didn't have any really big fish put plenty of fish in the teens. The trip was so successful that 6 people came right into the office and booked on next weeks trips already. Captain Paul and the mate Chris were still cleaning the boat at 6:30 tonight and getting it ready for Sunday Mornings limited trip. Captain Frank plans on adding even more of these trips. Captain Mike also reported a great day of fishing on the 5am boat as well. The fish are back after taking a few days off. Captain Ted said they were some nice fish in the twenties and the pool fish was around 30 pounds. Over on the ADMIRAL FRANCES Captain Don also had a very strong morning.Mr Decosta from NH drove down to try out the fishing in Point Judith for a change. He and his friends said it was one of the best trips they had ever been on.

What difference a day makes. One day you are a hero and the next day your a bum. The bite was off today. All three boats reported similar results. It was a beautiful day on the water and fisherman came out in force after the great reports. There was a handful of fish caught but very disappointing after the great day yesterday. Several times during the day the fish stacked up and it looked like things would come together but they never did. Tomorrow is a new day we are going to regroup tonight and hope that the fish do the same.

March 21

Another slow day on the water. Captain Paul ran the limited trip and was on the grounds bright and early before the sun came up. Unfortunately there were only a few small hunger fish there and his day didn't get any better after that. Captain Mike had the same results for the day on the Lady Frances for the 5 am trip. The pool winner was a 10 pound cod but it was awful lonely. This has been the best fishing in years up until the last 4 days. The boats are still marking fish so they have to start feeding again one of these days. We are all hoping that tomorrow is the day.

The Squid are in!

Capt. Ray was pleased to report that squid fishing got off to a good start. Before the anchor was tight squid were flying over the rails and the majority of the squid were the biggest kind with squid in the 15 to 17 inch range common. Anglers enjoyed a slow steady pick most of the evening with the last hour or so offering a really nice shot of big squid to finish off the night. The catch varied from angler to angler but those in the know did very well filling their pails and coolers. Small fluke were seen following the squid jigs to surface on more than one occasion as well. Spring has sprung along Rhode Island's south shore beaches. We will be sailing 4 nights a week for the squid. Please call the office for reservations.

Squid fishing excellent last night May 15th

The Frances Fleet reports that Friday Night's squid fishing was excellent. The squid were much more active than last weekend and some excellent catches of the biggest kind of squid were made. Some anglers filled upwards to a full five gallon pail with squid to 18 inches in lenght!! A very recent squid charter also produced comparable if not even better results. The Frances Fleet also has two boats out cod fishing today so look for an updated fishing report later today or tommorrow on that fishery. Last but not least we also have a boat out on a two day offshore cod fish trip and are anxiously awaiting details which will be available by later in the weekend.
