i was asked by my family and friends what i want for christmas, i proceeded without hesitation " gift certificat to the surfcaster.com"
my question is what do i buy to fill my surf bag? i target blues and mostly bass from the surf. what do i need to enhance my collection of lures.
what are the most important , must have lures and in what colors?????????
i know i dont need a darter , swimmer, plug, etc.. in 18 different colors. id like to have at least 2 colors of each...

as always thank you for all your help.......

First start with Bucktails in white from 3/4 oz to 1 1/2 oz. Buy each size in between. I prefer Blue Frog and then Uncle Josh. Then some 240s red and white pork rind or white curly tail grubs if you prefer.
If you noticed the recurring theme in the above post is YELLOW. That also includes yellow over white or chicken scratch. White is also pretty important. I love my white bottle plug. Blue over white or blue is productive.
If you are going out at night dark colors are what you want. Black or blurple. Black over copper is great when the peanuts are in.
You gotta "match the hatch" as they say. See what is around you and throw what looks like it.

you can do a search on here and find an abundance of info. also you may want to pick up a copy of zeno's new book. from what i hear, its one of the best books on plugs ever written.

The book is great but then again what do I know I get all my knowledge from the guys on my PC! (Relates to another topic)

likeitreallyis,

You forgot to show him all the garage space, shelving and rod holders, being used.

BUY IT ALL!

As you can probably see by my offshore collection for sale i am a firm believer in buying everything! I am constantly buying new stuff and buy everything new that comes out. I throw some crazy off the wall stuff sometimes and it works well when no one else catches fish.. you got to fish with what works.. and sometimes what works is what no one has! you like to fish with AVA but at night!?! Paint them black! lol.. i spent about 1000 bucks already this year on plugs and my collections are still fiercly growing! I dont know how but my truck just keeps getting Hookier and Hookier with asll plugs! bought about 50 or so this year.. kind of an over kill but if you are catching fish on school bus swimmers you want a few of them.. same with anything else.. Everytime you go into the tackle shop i recommend picking up atleast 5 plugs new ones. different colors. Eventually if your like me who goes into the shop 7 days a week i get about 35-40 new plugs a week! i guess u got to have some funds but who cares if i can not eat i will fish for my food!! haha

The world would be a better place with more comaraderie and less BS! We are all on this earth for one reason, to live, learn and experience! Some people should allow us to explore and enjoy!

J.N-ski slope head Jr and maybe a surface cruiser. maybe even one of the new flat bottom pencils he's comin out with toup

or if you want real nice needlefish, get a choopy oneup the 5/8oz one should be killer when the fish are keyed in on big spearing

Rich Johnson's Fishing Line site has some useful information posted under "Free Surf Fishing Seminar."

One clip from the radio show specifically addresses your question "Listeners questions on: Starting Surf Bag & What Lures to Use".

Good stuff. up

Be careful... it's a slippery slope. I can't afford to spend like reelhorney, but I have eBay email me preset searches on plugs. I've found some good deals there; no reason to spend more than $20 on a plug, unless you want to hang one on the wall Roll.

This guy goes to a psychiatrist and says, `Doc, my brother's crazy. He thinks he's a chicken.' And the doctor says, `Why don't you turn him in?' And the guy says, `I would but I need the eggs.'
