As tuna popping becomes popular, I set up a new thread for tuna popping report exclusively.
Though we have to wait until late June for tuna popping in Cape Cod Bay, tuna popping will start soon in Gulf of Mexico.

Have any of the Nor East members put together a Tuna Popping
thread like the Cod jigging bible? I am still reading that
and learning from it.
Thanks to Noreast members for this info.

Bellyups reported Capt Tomeny's charter trip out of Forcheon, LA.
It looks tuna popping started heating up in Gulf of Mexico

We had a great trip. I met many great fishermen as well. Capt Tomeny was great. First stop took us to a rig loaded with AJs. I hooked up on my first drop and lost my favorite jig in the tug of war with the AJ. I went on to loose several fish and did not manage an AJ. I redeemed myself the first night by landing a nice YFT that likely was 120-130 pounds. Unfortunately, no scale at the Capt Tomeny's. I would say the fish was at least as big as a 118 pounder I caught 2 years ago. This YFT was caught after about 4 or 5 casts with my Stella 20K. Now that is a way to break in a reel. The pics below are of the large YFT. wrote:

The Big E out of Freeport, TX had about 20 - 25 yellowfin tuna mostly on poppers and over 200 lbs blackfin on jigs on Memorial Day weekend trip even in rough weather.
I have a trip on the Big E in June 13 - 15 and am eager to test some poppers and custom built popping rods.

There are uncomfirmed reports that they stated to catch bluefin on poppores in Cape Cod Bay. I'll find out.

I have friends fishng Marthas Vineyard this week for stripers. THey had BFT in the head busting. They are thinking of heading out with some other locals to follow on their boat to fish for them.

I was out yesterday on 20 line in NJ trolling ballys and looking for the surface BFT as I heard rumors of them showing. We couldn't find any and water was cold. No good signs of heavy bait marks to really even stop to jig. Soon though, very soon!

A few bluefin in 100 - 150 range were caught inside Cape Cod Bay from three days ago.

I am in the process of contacting APS for one or more of the open charters with Black Rose. I might need to wait until July as I only have jigs with me now and my poppers and swim baits are not with me.
Several Friday trips this summer are due able for me.

Kev.

We are going to have open charters with Capt Dom once a week in Cape Cod Bay or off Chatham. The trips are for jigging and popping bluefin.

I was out on sunday,to 50 miles off of south jersey.
Went to the usual spots, and found bait, and many bluefish.
Water is still cold .....surface 60 to 62...needs to be a bit warmer.
