Nothing too interesting yet unless you are looking for bft. It's about time for them to appear at the hudson and north.....

My wife is pregnant and due in July.

Hope the kid comes early....lol

My wife says I am not allowed to go out of cellphone range in June and July until the kid comes, for fear I will miss the birth.

My fishing buddy for the Great Gun Anglers tournament is also expecting twin boys in July, so him and I have been weighing the consequences of fishing the June tournament. We have come to the conclusion that we can do it as long as we win.

Its goin to be a boy, I told her I wanted to name him "Evin" spelt just like that.

She said "why Evin and why spelt like that"

I said "because I want to name him after my Evinrude E-Tec I got last year" If he is as efficient and good looking as that motor he is bound for a life of success.

She thinks I am completely crazy. What do you think?

Your about to find out just how little fishing matters in life! Good luck to you and your buddy. Fluke fishing in 30ft of water with my kids blows canyon fishing away any day.

I was in the same boat last year, with a wife that was 30+ weeks pregnant with twins. As a result I did not leave shore for a month or so. Sat out the hudson anglers and couldnt sit on the sideline the following week for the woodcleft tourney. My wifes scheduled C was four days after the tourney. I figured if she made it this far what were the odds. Had a friend check in with his sat phone and get me on the VHF. Irony of the whole thing was he calls me at 8am and says his reception was in and out and was having trouble getting thorugh. Tough call to go or not. Glad I wont be making it again. Good luck. I couldnt imagine if I had missed it though. By far the best day of my life.

It's actually looking like the remnants of an eddy (with circulation) will slide into the hudson soon. Upper 50's isn't bad bft water.

Anyone planning on taking a look?

First canyon trip of 2013 for us

We picked up my friend Pete's boat Blondie down at the Viking Center in NJ Friday afternoon, after fixing up her cosmetic damage and bent props from landing on them as she settled after Sandy,

and adding a few new improvements (windlass/anchor system). The crew there was awesome and were working their butts off to get the new props tuned with the right interceptor strips.

Turned out, they still needed some pitch adjustment so they quickly swapped the props and had us in the water.

We waited for high tide till about 9PM and made the long slow trip down the river, through Great Bay and the tight marsh channels in the dark to AC where we spent the night.

At first light we fueled up and headed to the Hudson to try for some tiles on our way to Montauk.

We got the skunk off the boat for the first trip of the year, and Pete finally christened the electric reel he got last year.

We caught a few tiles fish and then headed inshore and hit some wrecks for some pollock before landing back in Montauk. Boat ran great and it was nice to be back offshore. Now we're looking forward to some cod fishing while we wait for the tuna to show up.

Yes, I agree, I take out my two kids I have now, with their cousins every year on a "cousins fishing trip" its amazing how excited they get.

My son has been talking about fluke and shark fishing all winter. He walks out to the covered boat on the side of the house and says "Im gona catcha sharky on that boat." He is two.
