Take a Kid Fishing

Most of us who have a passion for this sport do so because someone introduced us to the joy of being on the water. I will always be grateful to my father and grandfather who took me along with them on their surf fishing journeys for scup when they were enjoying their "limited" time off. They got me hooked from the start but their busy work schedules prevented them from taking me as often as I wanted to go. Fortunately, one of their closes friends shared a passion for the sport and he took me fishing 2 or 3 times a week from the time I was 10 years old until he passed away suddenly about 10 years later. I am fortunate enough to still spend time on the water with my Dad each summer and at the age of 6, we now include my nephew on some of our excursions. He, like me, will have a lifetime of priceless memories because someone took him fishing. I guess the point of this blog is simple. If you have a child of your own, take them fishing. If you don't have a child, there's probably a young person somewhere close to you just waiting to be taught. I was fortunate to have the best of both worlds and as an adult I'll never take that for granted.
