The Checklist shrinks....

Well, it looks as if the list may be a little shorter. I've finally got the mechanic to do some work and send the prop out for tuning and found my ignition key. For some stupid reason I put it in my on board tackle box which I hadn't cleaned out yet. That was a relief. It wouldn't have been a big deal to get a new ignition set, just inconvenient and another thing to do.

I can hear those flatties calling to me.....

Season that never was....

This is starting to feel like the season that never was. Reading the posts of fluke action on the north shore is making me twitch.

No progress on the boat this weekend due to a trip to Atlantic City with Mom for Mother's Day. Boy can that woman go...

Did try some shore based fishing Friday night in Stony Brook. Conditions just felt right with the overcast and calm winds. Got to the beach about an hour before sunset, slipped on the waders, and threw everything I had at em. Nada. Guy next to me had on hook up w/ a schoolie but lost it. I did see/ hear some surface breaks but needed a rocket launcher to get to them. Didn't see any bait around. Still, it was nice to get the casting arm limbered up. I just love the Spheros reel.

Hopefully the next blog post will show some great progress and maybe I will even splash the boat by then.

2007 Fishing Season Blog Kick-off

So this is it. My first ever Blog entry of what I hope will be many more.

Unfortunately, not too much to report. I've been trying to get the rig ready splash but the fates are just not being fair. Between busy weekends and illness I just haven't been able to get what I need done and each day the list grows longer.

For those that care, my rig is a venerable 21' Proline W/A cuddy with a 150 Evinrude and a full enclosure. Both are 1989 vintage and constitute my first boat. I've had the rig about 4 years now and still want to use it as much as the first day. Generally, I log about 250-300 hours a year. She has treated me well over the years and still runs strong although I try to baby it as much as possible. The motor never sees more than 4,000 RPM but on a calm day that puts me at close to 30mph... Not bad for a heavy old boat. I've had it in seas to 6' or a bit more (unfortunately) and she didn't fail me.

In a future post I will go into detail on its repair and service history, if only to put it down somewhere and offload it from my memory.

So, back to this year. The list of work to be done feels enormous and like it will never be complete (they never are), but here it is:
Must do:
Gear Case oil
Spark Plugs
Wash and Wax
Bottom Paint
Restore Bimini Winscreen
Install tow package on new truck
Rebuild powerwinch and replace cable
Replace nav light/ rewire if needed
finish connections to new panel (horn, gas guage, wiper)
FIND FREAKIN' IGNITION KEY...WTF?
Re-register Boat (already?)

Would like to do:
Replace trailer tounge
Replace remaining black rollers

Getting late...to be continued
