2011 Jamaica Bay Kayak Fishing Tournament for Charity
May 12, 2011 to May 15, 2011
The Eighth Annual Casting For Recovery - Jamaica Bay Kayak Fishing Tournament will be held May 12th, thru the 15th, 2011.
This is one of the largest kayak fishing events in the country. Last year drawing 334 anglers from 15 states and Canada. The event is more than a fishing competition but a celebration of the sport of kayak fishing, where participants camp out for days to enjoy the good fishing and camaraderie. In the past ESPN, The NY Times, The Fisherman and many other publications have reported on the event and we expect similar coverage this year.
All proceeds for the Jamaica Bay Tournament go to Casting for Recovery (Castingforrecovery.org). This great organization is what fuels the spirit of the event. Casting for Recovery® (CFR) is a national 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that supports breast cancer survivors. CFR provides free 2 1/2 day retreats that combine fly-fishing, counseling, and medical information to build a focus on wellness instead of illness. Since 1996 Casting for Recovery has made a difference in the lives of women at any age stage of treatment and recovery from breast cancer and in 2010 CFR held 44 retreats in 30 states.
