Report location New York > Debs/Jones > Lost Rod- Jones Inlet
Fishing method Boat
« Previous Report Next Report »

Well,I found out the hardway that the railmount rod holder on my boat wasn't tight enough (or that I'd left my drag too tight on the dead stick). Anyway, I likely hooked bottom and the rod bent in half, the rod holder rotated on the railing and the rod fell out a 1/4 second before I could get to it.

It wasn't an expensive set up, but it was my youngest daughter's favorite to use as it was relatively light. I'm not even 100% sure of the brand it was as it was an old hand-me-down set up. I belive it was a south bend or "sea hawk" 6' white boat rod (medium action) with a small level wind reel (again older, probably a penn). On the terminal end was a 3 oz brown spro bucktail with a 1/4 white teaser bucktail. The rod went over inside of jones inlet between the green cans on the west side of the inlet even with the last few houses (heading south) in pt lookout. The water was about 25 feet deep I believe. Tried dragging a snag thru for a 1/2 hour but no luck. Hopefully someone pulls it up and reads this. Thx

-Scott
