After a good start to the season, I just cant seem to get the skunk out of my tackle bag. Fished the Oakwood/GreatKills area yesterday as is my custom.
Now allow me to save some face here...... I only fished for about 40 minutes, so I didnt really put in my time. The wind was hard from inland, blowing straight out onto the water against the tide..Current kept dragging my bait < fresh clams > making it hard to keep a tight line..either way the hook came back clean every ten minutes or so...maybe I was too busy pontificating with my salty compadre Santo <or too busy consuming my beers> to take notice of a hit, but at least I had the baitrunner open hoping for a run..
Santo had a 26 inch bass and a rather large bluefish, both on fresh clams. Two other guys fishing the end of the jetty had about 6 blues from what I could see when I was paying attention...they were using clams, bunker, and a small chopped up bluefish.
My cell phone was ringing off the hook from fellow noreasters...One left a message that he got a LARGE bass in the park..The other stated that he saw a 40 pounder being weighed at the B&T..
Tonight and Thursday look good, tide and timewise...
Good luck, and tight lines. Hopefully next time I have my own victories to share.
