4-30-14 ~Black day~ 1st bass + Keeper of 2014

This is the Hardest report I have ever had to write......

Lost my sister Monday 48

To year long battle with cancer...

It's been just rough is an understatement

I was having a hard time the next day ... When there was a knock on the door... It was FedEx with a

Pair of

New waders...at the nearly the perfect time to make for high tide

Terrible weather --

Low low air temps , Pouring cold sideways rain and heavy wind from the east ...

But it Didn't matter - I had the time .so .i was going no matter what ..

---------------

Wind : East @ 15-20 +

Water: 48-50?

Tide high @ 1ish

Air - 44( feels like 32)

----------------

In at 140

Sometimes fishing the hard rain is just what we need...

Bring it ...

The wetter and colder the better ....

Didn't really care if I had a fish

But after 10 casts had a bite

Promising..even in these conditions

2 hrs in got my 1st bass of 2014

A nice surprise .. Micro bass

Fished for another hour or so shivering , fingers frozen and soaked through

Didn't really want to leave ...but...Just had to take one more cast ...

BAM!! As soon as the lure hit the water... Nice fish on! Zzzzzzzzz

Eased in a 32" bass and the lure fell out of his mouth as I grabbed em

Marked the fish length on my new rod ....and released him as he slowly swam ahead .. Now I know where to put her initials on the rod

Thanked my sister and left with a big smile

---------------

Total:

1st keeper bass of 2014 (32")

1st bass of 2014

1 hit

---------------

If we are lucky ...

we each get one sunrise

and one sunset

Cherish your time here and the people around you

Pd

Deepest condolences on your loss. Fishing can be a joyous activity, yet, it can also be a powerful salve to the soul at the worst of times.

Lovely pictures. Thanks for sharing.

I have no doubt your sister sent that keeper to you as a way to say goodbye.

A few years back, shortly after my father passed away, I went on a charter boat and brought his rod/reel setup with me, the very same one I had bought for him on his birthday back in the 70's. It turned out to be the best day of fishing I can remember, including hooking up with a nice gorilla blue demon that weighed in over 12 lbs and won the pool for $180 bucks, which I subsequently released and seemed to hesitate and linger. The next day I donated the pool winnings to charity in his name and retired the setup on a mount above my fireplace to remember him by. Wink

No one will ever convince me that my Dad didn't have a hand in my luck that day. So now maybe you'll also have a "fish story" that will serve as a lasting memory of your dear sister. up

Have always enjoyed reading your posts - my deepest sympathies...

I know words can never really address the sorrow, but a similar great poster has at the bottom of his posts a Thoreau quote, "Many men go fishing all of their lives without knowing that it is not fish they are after." You know your sister was there with you and her memories will always be with you. Being out there on the water gave you the time to really think about how lucky you were to have her in your family. She will always love you for that and you will always love her for having that chance.

I hope your family finds comfort and peace. Peace.
