Report location New York > North Shore > Port Jeff Boat Ramp Folly
Fishing method Boat
« Previous Report Next Report »

I went out togging out of Port Jeff yesterday. After pulling into the ramp to meet my friend and his girlfriend (for her first tog trip), I learned that a pump had been left on in the boat. I had a dead battery. With my friend looking at me like I was an idiot (deservedly), I asked a few boaters if they happened to have a jumper pack. One gentleman did, but it was unfortunatly, not fully charged. I asked a fella passing through the marina in his truck if he did, and he offered jumper cables. I launched the boat, and parked my truck to find Mike (Chevy1) coming into the lot to say "hello." So now I had a bigger audience to share my shame with. . .

The same good samaritan offered me tools to pull the battery out my truck to jump the boat with his cables. With a quick operation on my truck, the boat was running and we were ready to go. The gentleman with the cables and the tools, who took 20-minutes out of his day would take no money, and just my grateful thanks. A truly generous person.

We managed to fish about 45 minues before dark, and had 3 little toggies for our efforts. All on green crabs, and regular tog rigs.

This is why before any trip, I run the AllyKat at home so I'm pretty confident its gonna turn over at the rampup....mind you, the boat has proved me wrongRoll, but for the most part, running it before hand is a good idea.up

As for ramp follies, I had my own last time outRoll. Heading back in, the motor seemed to run a bit off...like there was some junk in the carb or something..just didnt run right. Back at the ramp...I was revving it pretty good and trying to gage what the problem was...well, in my trouble shooting, I kinda forgot the procedure that I like to follow when I get to the rampFinger. Anyway, I get the truck, and back it down, hook up the boat, and as I was pulling away...I start to hear and feel something not right, and my buddy Rob is yelling for me to stopsurprisesurprisesurprisesurprise....yep, I knew I forgot something...to trim up the outdrive.RollRollRollFingerFingerFingerFingerMadMadMadMad

Luckily, I didnt mess anything up...but thats one I'm not gonna forget soon...hopefullyRoll
