Report location New York > New York Bight > Canarsie Pier A Few Herring but don't choke the Chicken
Fishing method Surf
« Previous Report Next Report »

Saturday was windy with near zero windchills.

We had upwards of 6 fishermen on the pier myself included. Approximately 3 herring were caught.

I was so so cold that I only fished for about 15 minutes and returned to my car. I left my pole on the hood and started the engine to warm up a little. After 5-10 minutes I opened the door to retrieve my gear from the hood and I am suddenly looking at a CHICKEN ready to jump into myu car to keep warm. I shooed her away and she went under the car to stay warm.

I last saw her being feed some bread by a man then suddenly picked up and put in his car. He said he was going to warm her up a little. My bet she made it to the dinner table that night.

Only 1 fisherman on the pier Sunday afternoon, no catches.

I have read it’s not unusual for a person suffering from hypothermia to hallucinate. Try not to expose yourself to the very low temps we have been having. After you warm up, that chicken you saw WILL turn back into a seagull,. Good luck with the Herring.

Yea, going to warm up the chicken by removing it's feathers and putting it in the oven at 350 for a couple hours.

i once saw a lady at Kissena Park grab a goose by the neck and stuff it in a burlap sack after getting skunked while carp fishing.
it sometimes calls for desperate measures after a poor outing.
