Ran down the beach today and got on the troll early with niners.Had two good hookups before 7:30 in 40ft of water off the Casino pier. Small bass mixed in with blues later in the morning. The bluefish provided some much needed action .The bass will hit small shads, used a large metal castmaster to play with blues and still nailed one more keeper bass. It's getting better but still picky ,the larger concentrations of fish have not arrived yet.Good luck and be courteous to everyone. There are only a few places holding fish,so if someone's on fish play nice ,don't blow in like a jet fighter, join them quietly.

Do you use wire or downriggers for the niners?

niners

I use 6ft of 80lb test fluorocarbon leader tied to braid with a PR knot, low profile terminal tackle to fluorocarbon trolling weight to niners rig.Just outrodders, no wire or downriggers
Depending on where you want the rig in the water column.fish on bottom 6-8 oz weight 3-4 oz for middle .the key is speed.Slow and steady,if it's not producing look for the marks on your fishfinder and drop the rig on it by stopping, sometimes that produces.
good luck
