Ok, it's Jose season now and seas are 15' high on Stellwagen Bank...but here is my report from right before the blow. Big thresher. Really big one.

We tried running and gunning for tuna, because the day before we had miles of breaking fish out there. MILES. Smaller fish, which is easier for guys...but the fog crushed us. That makes a surface game tough when you can't see 200'. So we went for giant tuna. Now giant tuna fishing is exciting in it's anticipation. It starts up again October 1, so get your dates on my calendar.

Giant fishing...Baits were out, but I wanted more. I put out a small shark rod (Okuma Andros 16/SCT 30 rod).. It's light as sin, but strong enough for sharks. The balloon drops after 15 minutes...Never comes tight, so my customer reels in the bait to check it...and the thresher follows it! Takes it. Battle on.

It never jumped. It never ran fast. Very strange.. but it was huge, so an hour passed...Good harpoon shot, but it didn't like the tail rope, so it slapped the crap out of me and ran...almost taking the whole harpoon line to the ball. Tug of war was insane, but we finally won...Pulling a 464# thresher over the rails. Good eats.

Next day, no tuna love, so we bailed Pollock as fast as we could. It was awesome. All of the Pollock and red fish that you could want. That action will keep us busy until my season ends. Call 508-269-1882 to get yourself on my calendar! See you out there.
