Had the week off from school and needed some sun with the girlfriend so headout to punta cana. My first day there I see the beach is filled with pin fish and action on the water but didn't bring any gear. I've been seeing action for 5 days straight every morning around 6am. So I met with our vacation guide and was asking him if he knew anywhere I can rent a rod, he tells me to hold up and come back with a 6ft rod and a rusted out penn jig-master and a few different hooks and sinkers and tells me I can keep it until I leave. Got some raw shrimp from the buffet for $1 and head out. Caught some bait fish with the shrimp and tossed them out live for a nice little jack crevalle and lost a fish that looked like a small yellow fin. Called it quits after an hour of no bites. Bites stopped once the boat action began.

Can't wait for striper season, see you guys out there!

Punta Cana is on the eastern end of the Dominican Republic.

Radar, sonar, electric toothbrushes...

I was on bavaro as well! I stayed at the ocean blue and sand resort. Don't fish at night because it's not safe there but the fishing is supposedly great at night. Fish break or dawn before the water taxis and locals scare the fish off. There are a lot of rocks and reefs within casting distance and shrimp is the go to.
Shoot me a message when you come back with how you did!
By the way, you'll be offered excursions, a must do is reef explorer. You get to dive with rays and sharks and fish.

Enjoy your vacation! It's great there

Just got back... Just my luck... freak weather... it was tropical rainy season... 5 months early! lol. rained and tropical storm level wind first 2 days. Stayed at the Princess... water finally settled Thurs night/ Fri morning but a late night Thurs got me a late start Fri... tossed a rapala and a speck rig (essentially tandem mini bucktails). Caught a small jack... to the delight of the bathers and onlookers... and promptly released him... unintentionally.... lol. Fun time none the less.. you could see the reef line about 100 yards or so offshore... really wish I could have cast something just beyond that. Saw 2 other people with gear... A Canadian fellow with 2 8ft G-Loomis (definite)Rods/ Van-Staal (or similar looking) reels and a couple small but well stocked tackle boxes... casting Deadly dick and rapala type lures... eventually he walked over to the area with the water taxis (??? Two big ferry type catamarans) down the beach a bit. He'd been told there were breakers and bigger fish. Since it was the first true Caribbean weather day I opted to stay where I could at least argue I was being attentive to my girl... of course afterwards she said I should have "gone with the other fishing guy" lol. Only tour I did was the sand boogies as they are called (Dune Buggies). White Tiger Adventures is the outfitter. Definitely enjoyed it. Off Road, Dirt Road, Down to a quarry and tour of a exporter facility where they make nice hand rolled cigars, cocoa, rum, spices, etc (free samples woohooo!!!). That was the other fair weather day... then back just in time for Snowmageddon 2.0. lol
