Spent a few hours flukin this AM. Strong NW wind with the tide so we drifted very fast. Fished a big harbor a bit west of Branford. Stayed in about 20 feet. Smelt, squid and sand eels for bait. Caught a dozen, 3 keepers (one BIG one), 2 blues, 4 sea robins. Got boarded. The CG has a new, awesome cutter there. Big,with a big machine gun and 2 825 horsepower engines. No violations. There are scattered schools of bait fish all over the place. Look like small bunkers.

Nice going, how big was the "BIG" fluke? The CC has been busy checking boats this season, seems more so than past years.

Wishinone, we only measure/weigh fish if we're not sure they are keepers or if they are REALLY BIG. We guessed 5 - 6 lbs. I'm pretty good at estimating cuz I've been fishing for about a thousand years and have caught 100's and 100's of fluke.
