I had a great time on the MJ yesterday. The crew are hard working and fun to be around. It was my first trip and they made me feel like a regular (I'll bet knowing Marge didn't hurt) And Marge is always fun to fish with.
It was nice to go back to SHB where my PB fishing started. Lots of memories came back on the ride.
I'll be back.
BTW I tried 4" chartreuse Gulp alive and caught ling on them. It helped a lot when the begals started to invade later in the day.

This is good to hear... I just bought a ticket through Living Social today for the Marilyn Jean IV on a whim... wife sent me the link. I've never fished any of the boats out of Sheepshead Bay before, so not knowing anything about them... seeing this report has certainly got me excited to go! Was hoping to book my trip later in the month... hopefully it will still be off the hook by then!
By the way, was planning on bringing my own rod with one of my trusty Penn Jigmasters... can anyone clue me in on what pound test (Mono? Braid?) they are using for these trips for lings, cod, etc.? What kind of sinkers/hooks should I be bringing along? Anyone?
Thanks in advance for the help and advice!

Ling and more ling on the Marilyn Jean IV
For my first teip on 2012, I certainly chose the perfect weather and the perfect boat out of SHB, on Wednesday, 3/14/12. With both Tonys working hard as mates, the ling were flying over the rails. It was good to see Xenon again and try to keep up to his fish catching ability. The guy is really good at this. Also, thinks to Eddie for the GULP MINNOW, it helped a lot. Hopefully, I'll be out again soon to catch some more of those tasty ling. Tight lines, Josh.
tight lines, everybody, practice catch and release.

30# test will do the trick. It was all ling yesterday and if you do catch cod they will be in the teen class.
A tandem rig on the bottom for the ling with a single hook above it for the cod. If you catch dog fish loose the high hook. 6 to 10 oz sinkers.
The boat has all the gear you'll need. I think there is a minimal charge for hooks and sinkers.
Good luck, I hope you have as nice a day as we did.
Side note:
As i type this I'm lunching on fresh fried ling. Nothing better..

NYFishTaco ~ The Marilyn Jean is a class act boat all the way around. You get treated like family on that boat. The mates are helpful and very friendly, Captain Tony always makes his rounds around the boat to say hello & make sure everyone is catching fish.
As far as pound test in mono on a Jigmaster; you can get away with 30 lb test mono, set your drag good for the weakest link in your line setup in case you hook into a big codfish. They have hooks and sinkers on the boat & the mates will show you how to rig up for what they are targeting that day. You can also go with braid but then you will have to deal with knots you may not be used to, reel backing, top shots, etc...if your only going to go out once or twice get yourself a roll of Ande or Berkly big game 30 lb test for 10 bucks and spool up that Jigmaster...Love those reels!
Anyway you slice it you'll have a good time, the clientele on the boat are a friendly bunch too which always makes for a better day of fishing. Have fun and enjoy!
