ATTENTION SQUID FISHERMEN!!! Extra large squid are in! The Viking Fleet will be sailing for special squid fishing trips on Fri  May 11 and Sat May 12.  The trip will depart at 7:30pm and will return at 1:30am. The fare is $45 so call now to book a spot.

Saturday May 5- HALF DAY FLUKE- Captain Dave reports a decent first day of fluke fishing with a good amount of fish coming over the rails. Even though there were some shorts in the mix it made for a good morning to be out on the water. The pool winner was Rich Klein from Montauk who got a 3.2lbs fluke. SQUID FISHING- Captain Dave reports that Squid Fishing was much improved from last night with a lot more squid coming over the rails. Conditions were excellent again.

Friday May 4- Captain Dave reports a good night of squid fishing on our first trip out. Many anglers had up to 30 squid, and we had great conditions. Don't forget we are sailing Saturday night at 7:30pm and we still have plenty of room so call now to book your spot!

Friday May 4- Captain Steven reports the last local cod trip for the 2007 season ended on a strong note. First few hours of fishing in the morning produced some good action with some real green, healthy cod to 22lbs. Things slowed down midday, so we bounced around to various different drops and found a few cod on each drop and we worked our way back to the am drop. We were rewarded with 4 very very nice drifts with fish averaging 8 to 18 pounds. Phil Bloom was high hook with 8 keeper cod and he also had 8 throwbacks. Mavros had 6 keeper cod between 14 and 19 pounds. All in all Captain Steven is happy with todays outcome and wishes to thanks all of our customers for making our 2007 cod fishing season a success!!!

Wednesday May 2. Todays crew trip did not see a lot of action with few Cod coming over the rails. The pool winner was Bob Reich of Montauk, NY with a  15 pound Cod.

SEA OTTER - MONTAUK FISHING REPORT
Week of 4/30
Fri 5/4
We sailed a full day fluke trip today with a light crowd of 10. Al Goldberg took the pool with a 5 pounder and was high hook with 6 keepers. Good action today with lots of throwback shorts. We averaged around 3 keepers per man.
Sat 5/5
Today we ran a blackfish trip.
There was a strong tide running which made for some picky fishing. We had around 40 keeper tog as well as a couple of keeper cod as well. Mr. Choi hit the pool with a 9 pounder.

Sea Otter Charters
Fri 5/4
Charlie Bordsen and the guys from Bordsen Constructions sailed a mixed bag today. They started out the day with some tog fishing and moved into some cod action. It was Stevey 'Deadwoods" day as he was high hook with 7 keeper blackfish and he nailed the pool cod at 18 pounds.
Sat 5/5
Krispy Creme Nagel and pals were out today for their first mixed bag trip of the season. The guys did some fluking and some togging. Big Bone Kim hit the pool blackfish with a nice 9 pounder. Roger caught his share of keeper fluke to 4 1/2 pounds.
Our new schedule has us doing full days -7AM-4Pm Fluke trips Sun thru Wed and Blackfish Thurs thru Sat, by reservation.

LAZY BONES / Capt Mike Vegessi (631)668-5671  www.montauksportfishing.com/lazybones

5/4/07 Rick Mayer, Cindy Olive, Mike Young and Andy Chioi and Matt Kirck and the Carino Family, Gerard, Carano and Robby with keeper fluke.
5/5/07Capt Mike found the “MOTHER LOAD” caught over 50 fluke with 8 keeper and Limit out 4 keeper fluke and one 62 lb sea bass caught by Mike young (see photo)
Hello all,
Over all not a bad week action wise, except of course on Sat. where it was very slow.
Highlights of the week were: Tues. p.m. had Mike Young with his pool fish at  6.4 lbs and
three other keepers. Thurs. a.m. had Andy "Smurf" Chiodi with his pool fish at 4 lbs. and
in the p.m. he came back and took the pool with another 4 lber. Fri. a.m. had Tom Quinn
win the pool with a fish at 3.5 lbs. Fri. p.m. trip broke WIDE OPEN. We had wind against
the tide and with a handful of fares we kept over 20 keepers, 8 of them hangers in the 4 to 5
lb. range. Mike Young had his limit of fluke plus an awesome 6.2 lb. sea bass. Rich Wesolowski
also limited out and tied for the pool with 9 y/o Robert Conrad from Seaford. The pool fish
weighed 5 lbs. Sat. a.m. was very slow, but John Brosnan managed to bag the pool with
his fish at 4.2 lbs. The p.m. trip had one very lucky Rich Wesolowski limit out once again
and cop the pool with an impressive 7 lber.
Just to let everyone know there are quite a few throwbacks around. We are sailing everyday,
Weather permitting. You'll need some patience, but as you can see, you just never know when
the mother lode will hit.
Have a great week and think big fluke!
                         Kathy

Sunday April 29. Captain Steven is back from the Hungry Man Offshore trip and reports a good trip. At times we had tough conditions with wind against tide and huge ground swell on Saturday made it tough to tend bottom, but as conditions got better the fishing got better. With tile, pollock, and cod all in the mix we put a nice day's catch together. We had 100-125 tilefish (but only 3 tiles fish between 34 and 38lbs), 300+ pollock, about 40-50 cod, 30 cusk and hake mixed in, along with some big knothead sea bass, and the first few fluke for the season up to 6lbs. The biggest tilefish was a 36pounder caught by Pete Ferguson of Hicksville, NY. Between Pete and his son Joe they had 2 coolers full of tile, fluke, pollock, sea bass, and cod!!! Dwayne Sherard of Valley Stream, NY took the pollock pool with a 19lbs pollock. He had a total of 9 pollock and additional 8 tile fish. The edible pool was won by Peter Germinario from Patterson, NJ who had a 19lbs cod fish. All in all a great trip with a good group of guys, and good fishing! Capt. Steven and crew are looking forward to getting back out to the deep water this next weekend to do it again. There a few spots still open on this weekends Ultra limited trip on the Viking Starship, so book now before its too late.

SEA OTTER  Capt. Joel Lizza, (631) 668-2669   www.seaotterfishing.com
Sat 4/29
Ok bite today for tog. Around 50 keepers landed. A blackfish weighing in at 9 pounds was the largest, but it was caught by a non-pool entrant. It was good news though for Tom Keely who took home the pool winnings with an 8.1 pound tog that he weighed in.

Sun 4/30
Nice bite today for blackfish. Over 75 keepers over the rails. High hook was Mr. La with 12 fish - only taking home his limit. Mr. La also won the pool with a 9 pound tog. There were very good numbers of fish in the 5-6 pound range.

Sea Otter Iv sailed a private charter today with Mark Novak and his crew. The guys spent the morning fluking with Mark nabbing our first fluke of the year and catching his limit. In the afternoon we switched to tog where Mike nailed 3 nice keepers to 6 pounds.

Sea Otter IV will be sailing a a full day fluke trip 7am-4pm on Fri May 4th and
Sea Otter V will run Tog trips on Sat, Sun & Mon (5/5, 5/6, 5/7) Call for reservations on this weekends trips. We will be switching to a 7 day a week schedule thereafter for fluke and tog - call for updated shedule or check out our website www.seaotterfishing.com.
