RECENT FIELD EDITOR REPORTS

Back in the day, one of the surest ways to hook up with a big striper was to dip net a couple of nice, fat herring and live-line them in the Canal or maybe over at Billingsgate or around the reef at the Middleground – the destination being less important than having that tasty herring on a 5/0 hook at the end of your line. But those stocks became seriously depleted over time and the state eventually shut down the herring fishery to recreational anglers
It's hard to believe the summer season begins in two short days on Monday, June 20. All the signs are there: the kids are finished another school year, shore traffic is picking up on Route 55 and everyone is heading for the beach
Free Father's Fishing Day Clinic at Schiff Boy Scout Camp (Deep Pond), Wading River, NY on Sunday, June 18th, 2016 from 10am to 2pm. Come on out for a great Father's Day weekend fishing event! Geared to families of all levels of fishing
Windy conditions lately have made Vineyard Sound a rough proposition for boat fishermen. Seems even when things are fairly calm in the early AM by afternoon that old sou'west wind begins to hum and navigating in a three to four-foot chop becomes a regular event
National Fishing and Boating Week takes place from Saturday, June 4 to Sunday, June 12, 2016. This national event was created to highlight the importance of recreational fishing and boating across America
The official arrival of summer is only a couple weeks away and the weather has been cooperating for the most part. And to help jump-start the fishing season, the state of Massachusetts is hosting its free saltwater fishing days on June 18 and 19
Some fun underwater video with lots of life. It's amazing how much is going on down there
Continuing with yesterday's Nor'east report referencing the pollution of the upper sections of the Peconic River, Donna and I had reached out to former key-CIA field commander operation's officer Gary Berntsen. Gary had served in Afghanistan, hunting down Osama bin Laden—literally
Continuing with last month's May 2nd report, I said that we'd continue with addressing the pollution of the upper reaches of the Peconic River in order to show how the United States Navy was handling the pledged cleanup operation of toxic [Volatile Organic Compounds ~ VOCs] chemicals. You'll recall the continued fight against the United States Navy's initial refusal to clean up the toxic plume it created at the former Northrop Grumman plant dating back to the 1950s
What do you do when you're favorite coastal fishing holes are inundated by countless numbers of holiday weekend vacationers? I don't know about you, but I stay as far away as possible! Before Memorial Day, I picture myself floating along in my kayak with the company of striped bass, weakfish, summer flounder and bluefish. After Memorial Day, I picture overcrowded roadways, hundreds of boats and of course those wonderful jet skiers
