just bought a 10'6" Tica Surf rod have yet to try it yet. Very nice looking rod . Tica claims the rod is 100% Graphite and able of tossing lead up to 8oz. Has anyone bought a tica rod and what are your thoughts on it. Was looking at having a custom rod made but when I saw the price and feel of the tica it seemed like I was robbing them.
I bought th 8ft model last sseason and had no problems with it. the only advise i would give you is to not throw 8oz of lead graphite is strong but one good throw and that rod might snap well good luck .
Which tica would you reccomend for fluke surf fishing? i want a long rod 9, 10 or 10.5, and which action? that can throw 3 or 4 oz and a long strip bait.

Hi Artie,
where are you planning on fishing the most? I ask this because different rods are suited for different areas, and different types of fishing.
Thanks alot guys all of your imput's are highly appreciated. For the price they cost they seem very reasonable to a fisherman/woman on a budget. Though they claim it could handle 8oz of lead (which I high doubt) the most I ever tossed was 4oz into the suds.
Last fall I picked up a 2pc Tica 10'6" UEHA series, found a bargain price on ebay and gave it a shot.
Found the rod to be pretty decent for tossing tins/plugs/bucks in the 2-3oz range. Largest fish landed on it was a 9lb blue so far.
Last month I got a 9'UEHA, going to use this one on the inlets and back sides. IMHO this is a decent rod at the prices I got them at. My oldest son also liked it as well.
It's no Lami, but for budget considerations I got no beef with it.
Most complaints I've heard are about the guides; I can attest that they are brittle. I replaced all but the tip due to my rod hittin the pavement; never happened to any others I dropped. I am sure it's possible, but for almost all of them to crack, seems dodgy.
BTW, anyone have the 10' convench model rated 2-8 oz? Sweet spot? How is it for jigs and rigged eels? Mine feels too stiff; cannot load it well with less than 4 oz. Heard the 10' spinners are more like 1-4 oz. What about the 9' convench rated 2-6 oz? Sweet spot?
was at a local b&t checking out the over priced lami's and st.croix when i seen the tica for the first time looking for an 8' footer the rod looked great and felt great but this can't be the price only 59 dollars i had to buy it i pounded the crap out of it all season long this thing held up so great i started leaving my 10 footer at home and even used this thing out in montauk in mid december so after a season of hard use no problems, you can't beat the price for that kind of performance
This last year I bought two TICA rods which were both the 10'6 version. I put to 704 z on them. I bought these rods because of budge and the quality of rod they are. Down south they are the number one rod to go to unless you get a custom. I used my rods this year in Montuak and probably fished there abour 65 days of the fall run. I found my self fishing next to people with well built customs and outcasting them. But I have found myself next to customs and have had them outcast my ticas. Problems with ticas are their guides can chip and are not the most durable. I did break one of my rods but the company had a great return policy and paid for everything including shipping. I found they are hard to load though, but I loved fishing with them and found them to be better than some customs I have felt and used. Overall good rods
Swung by at Har Lee Rod in Jersey City just to see whats new and run into a lone Tica UELA 10fter.
This thing was priced 19.95$, made sure with Ray from the store that it was the right sticker, it was, and since then I am the proud owner of a 20bucks Tica.
Will through some worms in spring on a 3oz leader.
Feels like a decent stick.
They definately present an excellent overall value
And for the money that they are costing any minor setback is no big deal. Still can't figure out how they can turn a profit and make a decent casting rod, but they do...
That older series of rod is composite I believe (foam grips), wherease the UEHA are graphite. Still seems like a good deal no matter what; the 8' 1 piece UELA I casted were nice and versatile.
Okay, I still didn't get an answer about the 9' convench UEHA: Sweet spot? Less stiff than the 10' convench? What are yous peoplez trowin wit it?
I have a 10 ft 2 pc spinner. It easily throws 3 oz and strip bait, or a couple clams on a hi-lo rig and 2 oz of lead. It's not great with plugs unless their over 2.5 ounces. If you are casting eels, make sure they're 12 inches or more because you'll need the weight to get the rod to load. It's stiff; there's no denying that. I've had it two seasons, and caught a bunch of blues on it. I think I am still learning to cast it.
If you're looking for a fluke rod, don't go over 9 feet IMHO.
