Gotta love how the EU people spin the facts. Calling this a 'ban' is a joke. As you point out, this is nothing more than a close to the season, to be opened again fully when next season starts.
France and some other nations caught all of the EU quota and so some of the nations will not be allowed to fish this year. While it is nice to see them stop it once it is caught (they normally just let them keep fishing), I wish there was more to this so-called 'ban'.
Just think about how much 16,000mt of bluefin is...then realize that is what is reported, and most everyone believes there is signifcant underreporting.
You just have to hope that our government and enviro groups from the US will start to put pressure on the nations doing all the damage instead of continuing to lower the US quota (which is already so small it is a joke).
Follow that dart!

yes, and some nations over there dont follow any rules whatsoever, one can only speculate on the real amount of fish taken, its probably waaaayyy more.
Rumor can run around the world before the truth can put its boots on.
