Really too bad this will be the last year of winter fishing north of the Cape for cod. They say it will only be for a year or two but I'll believe it when I see it.
I stayed with an 11oz Solvroken and a bubble pink jelly worm teaser. Both caught well. I did switch the squid skirt on the jig from pink/white to blue/purple/white as I noticed the darker blue/purple colors working well. Most of the guys in the bow were using lavjigs with darker squirts and/or blue flies. They were into fish all day too.
My buddy, Pat, started with a mega bait jig and had some fish but defintely not the bite others had. He eventually switched to an 8oz Vike jig and did ok.
There is a Cod Jigging Report in 2006 in Jigging and Popping forum. I highly recommend to post there your experiences of setups and technigues on the trip so that many other jig fishermen can benefit from your experiences.
