fishing was just plain stupid today!!
biggest only went to 8 lbs 3 ozs
we could of easily kept our limit of 16 all over 5 lbs but we kept a couple 4 lbers on the first drop....
we made 3 drops ....the second drop was in shallow water about 20 ft...started out slow...but ten minutes in...they came around and didnt stop till we left!!!
it was like porgy fishing!
no matter what you put down...you got
whole...cut....smashed...still alive..... it didnt matter most of the time!!
between the 4 of us....we must of caught over 100 keeper blackfish....
we finished 2- 5 gallon buckets full of crabs....
we had 6 or seven double headers.....
i had my rod in the holder while i was cleaning up a bit....and i'm getting hits....so i just start reeling with rod in the gunnel and i hook up to a double header 7 lbs and 3 lbs....
i threw the female 7 lber back in along with many other females
looks like we had alot more male fish hitting yesterday.....we only kept 2 females....
oh...and these fish coming out of the shallows where jet black!!
i dont remember them being that black....whats up with that??
i'm talking about black sharpie black!
with a white chin of course...
head out of Norwalk CT today at 745 am in a 18 CC headed outside of the islands, fished for 2 hours got 5 fish between 13-16 inches nothing large, tough conditions
rocked and rolled, 2-4 ft seas with ENE wind building, tough time but a fun time, called it a day when a wave crashed over my bow, figured at that time it was time to go
got back to the dock, washed the boat and covered the CC just as the rain started
Now I have to go to work
Hopefully next weekend is not a washout and the weather gods cooperate
Sorry for the late posts but a few minor distractions have kept me away from the PC. Not fishing though, as the Blacks have started out red hot! Last week we had nice quantity with enough keepers to sastisfy everyone at the dinner table.
The Columbus Day weekend saw an even better bite with larger fish now starting to show and easy limits. Monday's top fish was close to 9lb.
Several weekdays still available and one weekend day remain for the best part of our season.
Had a "reel" nice trip today fishing with fellow mod Jay/JC30967 on my rig, @ a local reef. We saw good steady action throughout the day, easily boxing our limit of fatties to 5+ lbs. Must have also caught at least fifty 12-13.99" toytogs between us. Not to mention returning better than 15 fish that would have easily qualified as keepers.
Truth is, 4 good fish are more than enough in the meat department for me.

Pete, thanks again for such a great day ! The fishing and weather were great, and the company even better, can't get much better than that ! It was a pleasure to fish with you again!
We are crushing the fish limits taken daily, pool fish have been in the double digits.
Using green crabs ONLY. no designer crabs here. If you take blackfish seriously give me a try
fishers island blackfishing continues!!!!
bait shopping at 6 am....food shopping at 6 45 am....7 am load the boat... 7 30 am... off to fishers island!!
fishing was on the tuff side yesterday.....
wind was blowing hard....boat kept on swinging...
lost a good amount of rigs...
slack tide and start of the incoming was horrible cause of the hard north winds....
but we did catch a good amount of fish...
4 of us caught about 40 fish.....
biggest in the high 7 lb range.....
about 6 or 7 over 5 lbs...
most of the fish where nice keepers...
my blackfishing crew got out on wed and thursday this week....
6 guys did real good on wed..... biggest at 8 and change.....
majority of the fish kept was over 5 lbs and they must of threw back another 60 fish!...
and on thursday.... my two uncles went out by themselves.....and slammed the big fish!! biggest at 27 inches...probably around 11 lbs!!
they had a lot of tog over 5 lbs.... the 8 fish they kept where 6 lbs or better.....
this has really been a great season so far....
the only thing that sucks is that we've been fishing with 14 oz a better a whole lot this year....
our first ten pound fish bit on a crab held down with 30 ozs of weight!! 2 14 oz sinkers tea bagged style....
Had my brother up from Nort Carolina so I treated him to 2 days of awesome tog fishing.
Day 1 Sunay oct.25,
Fished aboard Capt.Ken Holmes Brooklyn Girl out of Orient point NY.We had 15 knot winds when we left port and headed to Connecticut but that all changed once we arrived. It was like some one flipped a switch as it was now blowing 30 knots.Good thing we were in the lee of the land.Fishing was very good with the tog chewing aggresively.I managed 12 keepers releasing a few and helping out a few less fortunate others. My brother held his own with 8 keepers on the day, releasing the rest.We made 4 drops on the day and fished 40-70 foot depths with them all bieng productive'Green crabs on a single hook or snafu is all you needed. The quality of fish were very good as there were many over 7 lbs caught today. The pool fish was 10lbs on the day.My brother and I managed 4 bigger fish between 7 to 8.5lbs.Tog are definatly chewing hard on the east end.
Day 2 Monday Oct.26,
Took my brother to the other end of Long Island (Sheepshead bay) for this trip and boarded Tony Santillas Marilyn Jean(6 pack) with Capt. John at the helm.Very nice day out ther with temps in the mid 60s.The fishing was good again,we did not have an agressive bite at all today. The fish were hitting very light and there was a lot of small life to contend with.We made 6 or so drops on the day picking away at fish on each drop.We fished 50 to 70 foot depths again. We grinded away for 50 or so keeper fish to about 6 lbs for the 6 of us on board releasing the extras. There was also a ton of 13.5 inch fish caught and released. The bite will only improve in this area as water temps drop.
Below is a picture of my brother Steve with a pair of jumbo Orient tog.
Once the wind machine calmed down a bit we were able to get 2 good days in yesterday and today. Limits, plus many keeper throwbacks are the norm with top fish over 8 lb. each trip. While prospecting on Sunday I came up with a personal best Bulldog of 11.5 lb.
Today's charter for the Sal party required a little searching but finally dialed in some steady action. Working a few spots at Fishers rewarded us with another limit catch and top fish going a solid 9lb. plus a few others in the 5-6lb class.
The action is hot! Come and get your Black Gold now!!
I had Rob (Togilator) out with me yesterday. I initially intended on making some drops around Fishers Island but with the North winds blowing prtty hard I decided to head over to the CT side and hide in the lee of the wind until it let up. This worked out pretty well as I made a couple of drops in an area that I've wanted to fish but never really did. We pulled somewhere north of 20 keeper sized fish between us along with a good amount of short off the reef. When the wind died out I did head over to Fishers but the spots I wanted to fish had a really ripping current with the moon phase and I didnt feel like using sash weights so we headed for the barn.
Unfortunately no bruisers with the biggest fish at about 17 inches or so but it was a good day with great company
