Grain of salt this because I havent used them for saltwater yet, but Im very impressed with the Allen reels Ive purchased and definitely intend to get one of these when I build my next rod:
There are so many that will get you into SW Flyfishing. There's servicable ones from $75-$1000 (Plueger to Charlton/ Mako) so as you can see that's quite a range.
Let's start with what's your budget and then I think you'll get some detailed replies.
Those Allen do look nice and I like the Warranty at that price.
While I agree with Hauler, until you can give us a price class, it's hard to narrow down the field. That being said, I would look into the Orvis brand of reels. I believe their "Hydros" line of reels are mid-priced. Orvis' warranties are pretty much unbeatable.
Several years ago, I stripped the drag on my Orvis reel. After catching hundreds of blues and stripers over the years, the drag just pretty much gave out. I sent it back to Orvis and they completely rebuilt it for no charge. They even shipped it back to me for free. Hard to beat a company like that.............GHOSTRIDER
i bought 2 allen fly reels last year. alpha 2 7/8 models. caught plenty of fish on both reels. with just hosing them down with some water. i cleaned them last night and they seem to be holding up well. i second allen fly reels. for cheep salt water reels.
I looked at the website for the "JRWP Water-resistant Saltwater Fly Reels". While $75 is a good price for a 9wt reel...I have concerns.
1. I never heard of them or recall they being discussed anywhere
2. No warranty or guarantee is mentioned
3. You usually get what you pay for
4. Good luck finding someone in Shanghai for a refund or service
5. Why would I send $75 to an unknown company in Shanghai for an unproven product when I could get a great quality reel for the same price or not much more from Orvis, Ross, TFO, Sage, Cabelas, etc.-with a product guarantee and service if needed.
6. Shanghai? Really?

Check out Galvan or Solitude...both U.S. made; both carry lifetime warranty i believe...have not used either of them but after endless internet searching decided to upgrade to one of them...saw the Solitude at the Somerset show and liked it...no plastic parts and not too heavy...good luck
All above reels are good not sure bout the shanghi tho, my experience with low to moderate price reels are sage 1680 7-9wt(new @100.00) awsome reel! colton awsome!reddington awsome! for their price
I highly recommend Solitude, Hatch, and Tibor.
All are made in USA and have excellent drag systems and hold up very well when fighting big fish.
Solitude is low price leader (less than 1/2 price of others) since they sell direct to consumer. I purchased a Solitude 3 at the Somerset Fly Fishing Show for my freshwater 5 wt. bamboo rods and am very pleased with the quality. The Solitude 4, and Solitude 5 have sealed drag systems.
Solitude make somes of the components for the Charleton big game saltwater fly reels costing more than $1000.
I have a bunch of fly reels, but from a lot of guides and fellow fly fisherman ive heard abel reels are some of the best. They may be expensive, but are deffinatly worth it. Also, I just saw one of these at the 110 fishing show, the Colton fly reel is an absolute beast. At a good price too.-Kev
I owned 5 Abel reels: Super 10, (2) Super 8's, 4N, and Pt.5.
I found that the spool "free wheeled" when the drag knob was loosened to let out line for casting. This caused tangling of the fly line within the reel cage and hindered fishing.
For this reason I have sold (3) of the Abel reels, and purchased Hatch #7 Plus and #9 Plus, and Tiber Riptide for saltwater.

"free wheeled" ALL DD(direct drive) reels have that tendancy when drag is loosened that includes the reel u mention
