I like newells, the only thing i hate are the handles for the type of fishing that I do. Any good aftermarket handles out there that do not defeat the purpose of a lightweight graphite reel? I thought i remember seeing aluminum handles somewhere but that would feel kinda funny being that much heavier. Also, what is the narrowest version of the 300 series?

Two questions here.

1/ Go to the Allcoast Tackle board and search for and then send Jerry Downie/"Reelman" a PM regarding his custom Newell handle knobs. They are much nicer to use and are a direct bolt-on most any Newell handle arm, other than the old Blackies with the aluminum arms.

Think sort of a cross between an old Penn torpedo and a current Saltiga handle - very nice stuff. I have them on all four of my toggin' 220's. They are ridiculously inexpensive for what you get.

2/ Narrowest 300 series is the 322. There used to be a 300, but I think that was the same width as the current 322.

best, Lep

We stock the Newell handle from Tiburon. It is a direct fit for 200 and 300 reels.

If these are the handles with the 9degree off set, they are well worth the money. up

The TIB handle is awesome, used it the other day on a 338 codfishing caught a whole bunch on the jig and it cranked em up no prob. A little pricey but well worth it in my eye.

I agree thats its comfy to crank up fish with but b/c of the weight in the knob , it has a tendency when casting to gain momentum, rotate over, and smack you on the top of the right hand. More of a nuisance than a serious flaw. Maybe it balances better on the wider/bigger reels.

I can see that I'm in the minority here, but . . .

I'm gonna keep on pitchin'.

For what you will spend, there is no better handle upgrade for a 200/300/400 Newell.

If you contact Alantani, he has the Durlin 9degree handle for $25.00. You might have to drill out shaft on the original handle, but that 9degree offset makes cranking effortless.
Kilsong has these...

around $80
and these...

around $60

They are from JigginMaster and also have a 9 or 10 degree offset. Very nice but costs a little more. up

Hey lep I like that handle you showed.Im going to contact the guy you mentioned and get a few for my other newells.

I like the Tiburon, but honestly it is too much money. Its about 1/3 of the what the reel costs.

I think im gonna look into the handle Lep is talking about. That is, after I buy a new newell to put it on. The tiburon one just seems to kinda defeat my purpose in having a small, narrow, light, jigging reel. I seem to buy a new reel before every groundfish season, and the only thing that has kept me from going newell is the handle. This year i think im going with the 332 with this aftermarket handle, or maybe try and retrofit something from my reel graveyard.

The T Bar handle is a handle not a knob. They have been redesigned for ergonomics. So there is some added cost in the manufacture of the TIB handle.

The handle material itself is now a rubbery material like the Shimano style handles.

The handle has 2 positions that allow you to adjust the crank swing.

It weighs as much as the Newell handle.

It is pricey.

Thanks,

John

Sexy Red Newell 322, I'm glad to let everyone know you can't get this handle, and it's comfortable as can be. Even though it's aluminum, it's not cold at all when you fish it. Sexy Red star drag, sexy red clamp, sexy clicker, and sexy spool tension knob.

The second picture is a Modified Penn handle which all the Sharpies in SHB have been using forever. It's the last one I have, it's never been used, and I'm willing to part with it.

I'm too sexy.
