Here is a 1949 advertising postcard for the PALACE III. She was a WW II subchaser converted to Party Boat Fishing. Built in 1942 as the USN SC-1322. Enjoy !!!
How about a pic of the Sea Queen III? My grandfather, Fred Schmahl, owned her and ran her out of City Island back in the 50's and 60's but during the 70's , she sailed out of the East River at 23rd st. She was an old sub chaser built in about 1917 or so. Rolled like a SOB with that narrow beam but boy did he catch fish. Looked alot like the old Bronx Queen, a big 110' with an on-deck pilot house. Lots of great memories of that boat as a kid.
I was caught in a hard Nor'Wester coming home from offshore on her when she was the White Star IV. It was a pleasure to be aboard her in that huge head sea.
The Scotty was a GREAT head sea boat but man could she do some rolling. She hadGM 12v71N's but Frankie Blount may have repowered her. I was in a little nasty-ness on the White Star(now Speedo's boat)She is a friggin monster of a sea boat. Here is how she looks now(Speedy is known for making his boats SPOTLESS)
Those big wide Gillikins are a lot like that. (Elksie K III, Sea Pigeon IV, Dorothy B VII) When underway the really "Knifed" those big seas, But while at anchor..."Hang on brother" !!!!
She really is pretty much un-beatable with seas in her face but put her in the beam and oh boy, many a coffee pot have been launched into orbit when she got to rockin and rollin. Here is a shot of another one of my favorite Gillikin built boats
