Winterize the DF90a ~ 12-17/18-11

Been waiting on the lost package from UPS.... Under investigation...
Won't have an answer until mid next week ... And no gaurantee it will be found... That's nearly month since I ordered it on the 23rd of NOv.
( And it never was found_ I am out just under $200 of Zuke parts)

Decided to put together a few things I already had and finish th winterize this weekend--- good thing the weather has been good the last 3 weekends..( 40-50)

Although very cold this weekend but sunny

Sat :
- ran it motor + fuel stabilize
- fogged motor and all cylinders
- greased all zerks

Sunday: very cold today-
- Ran around to get the proper tools for the Lower unit - some advice form West Marine Tech , Deep Creep on the bolt and nice screw driver set @ SEars did the trick...came off it the 1st shot.
-Took some time to drain and fill...so in the mean time I put the Christmas Lights on the house..

had an oops moment when I spilled the Tool case and alll the parts in to th boat Sat... cleaned em up Sunday...

Can't wait til spring - hopefully this winter stays mild.

update 12-21-11
Re-odered parts from a different Suzuki parts supplier/dealer in AL..IM Marine -- prices were cheaper.

Zuke Silicone + Maint after Operating in Salt 12-12-11

Suzuki recommends this brand of Silicone to coat the engine with -- suggested after every 3-4 trip in saltwater:

CRC brand heavy-duty silicone lubricant, no. 765-1422.


here's the write up on Zuke use in Salt:

How do I use and care for my outboard engine in saltwater?

Flush your outboard with fresh water after each trip.

Use a quality "ear muff" style flushing adapter that fits on the lower unit water pick-up (or flushing port when available), and run your engine at idle speed (in neutral) for at least 5 minutes to flush out any salt. Your owner's manual will give you more information (including important safety precautions) on this procedure.
Wash and wax your outboard engine.

Careful washing with mild soap and water not only makes your outboard look good, but also removes salt and other deposits. An application of a good quality marine wax will help to seal and protect the finish against the sun and salt.
Treat your engine with silicone spray.

Every second or third trip, remove the hood of your outboard (make sure the engine is turned off and cool to the touch) and apply a thin film of silicone spray to the power head. Be sure to use a type of silicone spray that won't damage rubber and plastic. One of the best for this is CRC brand heavy-duty silicone lubricant, no. 765-1422.
Touch up nicks and scratches in the paint.

Inspect your outboard frequently for nicks and scratches, places where corrosion can get started and spread. Touch up any superficial scratches with a color-matched touch-up paint. On deeper scratches—especially where bare metal is exposed—use a top-quality metal primer first.
Store your engine out of direct sunlight.

The direct ultraviolet rays of the sun can damage the finish and deteriorate the exterior plastic and rubber components. For this reason, it is best to store your engine out of direct sunlight. If direct sunlight is unavoidable, keep the engine shielded with a top-quality, UV-resistant fabric cover while in storage.
Grease key points of your outboard engine.

Your Suzuki comes equipped with special grease fittings to lubricate and prevent corrosion at key points where the engine pivots and swivels. Using a grease gun, apply grease through these fittings regularly, as recommended in your owner's manual. Also, periodically remove the propeller and apply a film of grease to the propeller shaft.
Replace sacrificial zinc anodes as recommended.

Most outboard engines are equipped with zinc anodes which "sacrifice" themselves in order to protect other metal parts from corrosion. To keep working properly, however, these zinc anodes need to be replaced as recommended in your owner's manual or once they dwindle to less than 50 percent of their original size. In some extraordinarily corrosive salt water areas, it is wise to add an extra zinc anode below the water line of your boat and bond it to the engine with a quality marine electrical wire. Your dealer can help you decide if this is needed. See your Suzuki accessories catalog for part numbers and further information.

Well was hoping to get the motor WINTERIZED 1ST...but Browns point sent the packages to my Old address? when I went over to get them ... guy didn't have them? so after a few very angery phone calls -- a trace was put on them

after waiting for 2+ weeks for the parts -- I have to get the boat wrapped now... all that nice 50- 60 weather we were having is leaving -- very cold this weekend low 40s and 20s over night..

but no rain or snow...gotta get it done

it's going to be weird doing the mech work after ward..oh well...I just hope I dont have to Eat the costs of the lost packages -- who ever has em signed for one..

go the cover on in the 1st try--- dragged it for bow to stern...slipped over it like a glove... registration marks on the cover helped immensly.

rear extension came out pretty good...sturdy.. should have done this years ago,,,,each year the structure gets an upgrade..

11-4pm

finished the garage ceiling storage as well.

nice surprise of the day was finding an old vise from my master carpenter great uncle Mac hidden in a bin in the shed...sweet and works smoothas ice.

very late wrap this year..stupid postal mistake.

Still warm.....Early December

50s and now 60 today 12-6-11.

....but cooler temps coming..still haven't wrapped the boat...still waiting on parts from Zuke dealer to winterize...better get here this week because this weekend is IT !
