Lake Ronk ~ 1st walleye ~ 11/19/11

Went to the store to buy a flat screen tv .... Got the last one @ $99
Looked a liitle closer @ the box when I got it in the truck... Hmmm there's a picture of a guy holding a walleye.... Now for the past week I have been putting together a few things to try an catch my 1st walleye ever... So I think this was a sign... A good one.

Dropped the tv off and picked a few supplies an headed to the lake for the last hour of sun... 3:30

-----------------------——-—
Wind sw 10-15+
air 53
Water 55? Cold
-----------------------—-—-—
Stopped in a few different spots moved around ... Just hit a bunch of weeds..
Didn't stay in one spot long .. Just kept moving until I stopped getting so many weeds..

Hit one spot I never ever had anything @..... 1st cast ... Brought it in slow checking the action as the lure slowed right in front of me... Did a stop / start and out of the dark shooots a small fish and hits right in front me... Great to watch ... Even better was it was my 1st ever Walleye ... 12.5"

Kept at it ... But nothing else showed.

Done @ 5pm

Total
-1 short Walleye (12.5")
````` caught on a Rapala X Rap 1/4 oz 5-10' dive - Ghost white..( lost it the very next triP)
-Many weeds
-at arOund sunset ... Birds started going nuts... Out of casiting distance
Did see one nice fish crash the surface.
SB ~ Election Day Bass ~ 11-8-11
SB ~ Election Day Bass ~ 11-8-11
Had the Day off - and it was perfect outside -- last few years, election day has been pretty nice and in the low - mid sixties.. so nice trend continues this year.
Didn't have anything ready since I have been busy with projects and organizing this October -- took my time putting everything together....wasn't in a real hurry..just enjoying the free time.
Hooked up the boat by 10:30 & dragged it to the polling place to vote on the to the ramp...Jeep ( now @ 112,506) has been acting terrible..new water pump 1 week ago and now it's having trouble starting correctly...I wasn't taking any chances before I got the water...so when I got there --I just left it running..Voted quickly and was on my way..
--------------------------------------------------------------
High @ 9 am
Wind - zero--- not even a slight breeze --
Air - 69? == warm..pleasant
water - 53-56
--------------------------------------------------------------
to the water @ 11:55 -
talked with a few nice Optimum guys @ the ramp about my promising chances for today...and off I went..
a really beautiful day -- perfect cruising day--
Water is CRYSTAL CLEAR --- you could see the bottom clear as day 10 feet down.. So clear, that a few times I had to check the finder to make sure I wasn't going too shallow..very deceiving see that clear...
on the way out..stopped @ a spot I like for a few casts....bingo... had a hit on the 1st drift... really wasn't expecting anything to be there..
redrifted and picked up a schoolie Bass @ 24" -- made about a dozen more drifts with a bump here and there but couldn't hook up with anything else..
probably;ly spent too much time there..
moved on by 1:30... FLAT as GLASS in the sound.....
went in search of Birds diving....didn't take too long as I found a pile of them driving on some fish pushing bait up and down..got in the pattern and had a hit...Bass -- no marks..
took a few drifts to get another to hit....but it ended up being a Blue bite off..
tried under them for a while.. but nada.. 2:10 now..
only a little out going left...
hit a 3rd spot on the way toward PJ to try the shoal..
fish next to another Nor'easter Grock.. nice meeting you...as I were were just exchanging info on the day... BAM!
Get hooked up by a freight train of a bass on light tackle.....a little too light as I realized the rod was still set for Weaks...drag was going crazy.. didn't want to touch it during the battle..but I had to tweak it in order to get him in today-- rather than tomorrow..
still he ran me around the boat a few times.... nice 2-3 runs... a quick hand lip grab and I boated a beautiful really Fat 33" Bass..
Quick measure and photo - released him in great shape - dorsal up and ready to Go>
made 10+ more drifts but that was it...and I'll Take it..decided that was enough.
done @ 3:30pm..
Never made to the East.
(Time to see if I'll be using my Seatow Trailer service,,,,fingers crossed as I turned the key...hard starting again... but cranked over on the 3rd try.....1.5 months to go before I upgrade to a "newer" WJ --
Looks like I'll be in the shop again before that happens.. She is really resisting the change..)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
total:
1 Keeper Bass ( 33") fat - football shaped...
1 Schoolie Bass ( 24")
2 missed bass bite
1 Blue bite off
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- on the way back in....Saw a seal @ Cranes -- very cool sight -- tried to get a better picture -- but he wouldn't have it.
