Jeep ~ 0331 casting

well...boat outboard motor ( 4 stroke Zuke) failed Sept 18th due to oil pump explosion.
and now it looks like my 00' jeep has the dreaded bad cast 0331 cylinder head crack..
just noticed the coolant was slowing leaving the resivoir..

2 big ticket items in one year...maybe it will last?,,,well @109k it's not worth fixing it to me...I 'll drive it until dies..

I only drive it 3k per year..

SB ~ 3 Day Weekend 34" Yak bass~ 10-9-10-11-10

SB ~ 3 Day Weekend 34" Yak bass~ 10-9-10-11-10

Very late reports..

Had a long weekend and what a weekend it was! perfect weather everyday. only difference was the wind..

Sat 10-9-10==========================================================================

Did Some yard work 1st and then hit the suds on foot for the last of the out going til sundown..

had fish on with in 10 cast - nice little bass.
managed 4 more and as the tide left and sun fell- made a big move

glad I did -- hooked into a big blue..but broke off...too bad..
took for ever .. but found another one -- did a huge leap as I set the hook -- wasn't expecting to see another ..or any blues for that matter as I only had 30lb flouro on me...
struggled to keep the line straight hoping he would not turn across it and get the leader... got him right to shore --- when he does a big long tarpon tail walk right @ me in less then a foot of water...and snaps the line as he comes crashing down just @ my feet as I jumped out of the way... all I could see was 30" of anger teeth catapulting towards me..

couldn't top that -- so called it a night. done @ 6:45pm
---------------------------------------------------------
total:
5 Schoolies (17-21")
2 Big Blues ( 28?- 30"?)
10-20 missed bumps bites ..
-----------------------------------------------
- great action - pretty consistent..not much waiting between fish..not bad for 2+hrs.
-Truck turned 109K today

Sun 10-10-10==========================================================================

wanted a change of pace...so decided to take the yak out since on such a nice day - very warm in the sun.
------------------------
Air 70+
wind NW 10-15
water 62?
High @ 2pm
-----------------------

in @ 3pm --lots of bait in the water.. a great sign...but maybe too much..
paddled out as I heard the scream of a Hawk above,..awesome sound... then 2 ospreys over head one with a fish.. 10 min later 2 Blue Herons chasing each other in aerial battle.
monarch butterflies , diamond back terrapins, Snowy egrets... It was wild kingdom today.. worth the trip to just see this...

Hit many many spots....for nada..I know there's fish here...just where? -- was starting to think maybe I was in the wrong place.. when just as the though crossed my mind.. ZZZZZZZZZZZ nice fish.. BLUe .. dragged me around .. tough guy @ 24".. ..quickly released - felt much better now the skunk was gone..

casted and casted -- bump here.. bump there.. bite off.. but nothing stellar.. very patient fishing today....I just had a feeling about this one spot that I kept getting light hits from...when
light bite --set the hook and the fish just took OFF>>>>>>>>> biggest fish on the yak yet.....not sure what it was ....pretty sure it was a bass by it's actions...but the best part is not really knowing as you Nantucket sleigh ride around...I had dreams of a rogue weakfish...but then I always do...Finally got a look @ him came up and ran down..Nice Bass..
Got em boat side - quick measure 34" - Personal yak Best and released this beauty-

After that - I t was nada...fish on top but no takes.. done @ 6:50.
------------------------------------------------------
total:
1 Striped Bass ( 34")
1 Blue ( 24")
a few missed hits..5-6? but not many
---------------------------------------------------

awesome awesome day on the yak

Mon 10-11-10 Columbus Day off =================================================================

So great yesterday and so similar today that I decided to Yak it again.. plus everything was still in place -- just jump in the truck n go.

Same scene as yesterday .. unreal beauty.

in@ 3pm again
-----------------------------------------------
High @ 3pm
wind - nada - changed and had breezes but different directions - never got started..
air 68
water 62?
--------------------------------------------

took even longer and more patience today to find action...and when I did hook up - it was a Robin..

2 hrs and much , much casting with little or no results....hooked up with a nice blue -- felt big as the drag went crazy and he Spun me 8 times..like a top..
I was surprised to measure him@ only 24" -- fight felt more like a 28" fish..

had another robin ...and that was it for 3+hrs....

best part of the day was when a Osprey was diving 100ft away from me multiple passes .. so cool to see Him smash into the water -- jump out and shake off..circle me and do it again.

done @ 6:30 -- my arms are shot from 1000 casts this weekend..
--------------------------------------
total:
1 Blue ( 24")
2 Robins
2-3 nice missed hits
4-5 bumps
1 Plastic bag...
-------------------------------------

Overcast and showers predicted for the pm.. huge differnce a day makes - cool and cold today - kept many people away - FALL
and very Windy so the fly rod stayed in the holder again...wind got even worst by sun down to the water by 4.

just before sunset set -Switch lures to the $$$ -- 3 casts ~bam~ Fish on - nice schoolie @ 22"
quick release
after getiing some great sunset shots ( best of the year) had another schoolie 24" post sunset..

WM - SB ~ Early Autumn Late Day trip~ 10-2-10

WM - SB ~ Early Autumn Late Day trip~ 10-2-10

Headed out late on Sat afternoon to hit the last of the incoming..
not my favorite tide..but the sunsets are the best anytime..

loaded up , dropped off a friends mower, stopped @ Dicks and to the shore by 3:30

Windy so the fly rod stayed in the holder...( could have taken it as the wind died out 1/2 hr later)
---------------------------------
Wind SSW @ 10-12 then 5-7..to near zero @ sunset..mostly because land blocked it..
air 70+ - warm in the sun
water 63?-65? still feels warm
high @ 7pm
sunset 6:30ish
-------------------------------

casted in different spots... just snappers...breaking all over.. bite offs here and there but not as bad as a week ago
took awhile but I had a good feeling about this one spot and ripped off some good casts.,....2 - 3 in ...had a fish chase the lure right past me 6' away,..and turn away like a shot.
put the next cast on the money -- Fish on -- nice schoolie 22" ...

then nada for the next 1.5 hrs...just snapper hits and maybe a few bumps

5:30 ~ made a big move......20+ casts --nada-- so just settled in to enjoy the sunset... I had a fish already so I wasn't chases by a skunk..
it's funny how you relax and it just happens..
bump...next cast ,Bite.. then fish ..on ...nice feeling..but just a robin,..then a Bigger than a snapper blue hit..

just before sunset set --- bam~ another hit on a different test between a bass/blue retrieve worked as the fish crushed it on the blue part..
nice schoolie @ 24"
quick release
and not 6 casts later - same retrieve..Bam fish on again.. a nicer schoolie 25"
I'll take this size all day.. beats the mirco 15-16s..

sun faded by 6:45..had to get home..
AWESOMe Sunset,,
----------------------------------------------
total:
3 Schoolies ( 22 ,24,25")
1 Robin
tons of snapper hits
1 blue bite off
a few bumps here and there..
---------------------------------------------
-ran into a high school friend I haven't seen for 20?yrs.
+ a butterfly researcher checking out all of the Monarchs that littered the area

going to repeat ( hopefully ) on Sunday after the Jets v Bills game
