SB ~Night Fishin plastic w AD~ 9-29-10

SB ~Night Fishin plastic w AD~ 9-29-10

Made Plans with AD to hit the dusk to dark outgoing night tide on Weds evening
we haven't fish together in a while - so I was looking forward to it.

Calm before the storm which is the remnants of TS Nicole riding the east coast and flooding everything on the way..

and it was calm ...very calm.

waded as the light was fading to black... stars visible....for at least an hour..

in @ 7pm
-------------------------------
water 63-64
air 65ish
wind SSW @ 5-10 or less
low @ 10:30pm
-------------------------------

After some wardrobe fixes we were fishing...
Started with plugs ..switched em up a few time.. Ad had some slurps -- but no takers..
after a short time Decided to switch to plastics..especially after reading a Night plastic article by Doc M

about maybe the 2nd cast - hit! - yeah ..I love working something new -- that WORKS!

had many hits and 3 fish on -- but nothing landed..and no bite marks...or slices...even had a swipe follow right @ my feet..

Ad hooked up with a small bass... and about a 15 min later .. I finally hooked up with a fish .. but a blue..

tide near low now and nothing else happening... called it around 10pm..

a nice night out.

--------------------------------
total:
1 Schoolie Bass ( 17")
1 Blue ( 19")
many missed hits... plastics about 20 -- plugs maybe 10 or so
-------------------------------

WM-SB ~ Windy - Overcast Sept Sunday ~ 9-26-10

WM-SB ~ Windy - Overcast Sunday ~ 9-26-10

Still feeling down about the motor---
decided to put the yak together for a last shot @ Scup on the yak.. I was even considering hitting the local boats but remembered that their scup season goes on after ours stops today and u can keep 4x the amount..which is nuts..

got up in the am saw the wind kicking ...took the yak off and put the bike on with Fly n Spin...
did some small house chores until late day high tide -

-----------------------------
high @ 1:30ishpm
air 70 - OVERCAST - cool -- it was 80++ the day before..
water 65
wind NNE 15-18 -- SE @ 15-20
------------------------------

Wind was kicking when I arrived @ 3pm.. But switched to SSE -- ( I guess I could of yaked - too late)

was going to fly but the wind was just snotty - and I wanted to catch fish where the wind was working for me -- fly in the face and side of the head or other wind issues -- so I took the spin

stepped in to snapper blitzing everywhere,... and had many bite off... was started fish further out and reel as fast I could in close to get past the Snappers ...worked well..

finally Had a bass hit ...... 4pm .... then a nice Schoolie ( 20") just seconds before a boat ran by...

then more snapper bite off... decided to make a slight move - drifting down with the tide...had a hit.. stopped and plucked 4 more bass from the same spot- & new spot to boot..
2 were back to back and one was a nice 25" fish -- but the others were under 20"... still a very good day for me as this season has been very slow from the shore - Fly or spin..

tide now near low and light fading 6pm moved to another spot... FISH ON ..robin,,,,,and in 9 casts a 6 robins....
that's it - called it @ 6:20 to make to the J_E_T_S_!_!_!_!_! game vs. the Fins..( Win !) Sunday night game.. a nice bonus to a nice Sunday under the clouds..

I love overcast days

------------------------------
total:
5 Schoolies ( 17- 25")
3 Snagged Snappers
6 sea robins
6-7 missed bass hits
20+ snapper bite offs...
1 Dead blue claw

SB - MID tide NAV - spots to avoid -- 9-22-10

PR

Here's the MaP I drew you of low spots to look out for when Navigationing SB @ Midtide or just past mid tide..
Low tide is a No Go as it's 6" deep where the Pink is @ low
and Exposed Where that RED area is - right in the middle of the channel.
they actually marked it with RED bouys as well

So here's the just after MID tide key (2.5 hrs Before Low) - estimated Depths:
RED = 8-9"
Pink = 1 - 1.5 feet
Yellow = 2 - 3 feet
white = 3 - 5 + Feet

follow the Blue line...

hope this helps

if you stay away from that red area and return a min of 2.5 hrs Before Low tide you will be fine.

GSB to SB ~ WEAK Motor Break down + Fly ~ 9-18-10

GSB - SB ~ WEAK Motor Break down + Fly ~ 9-18-10

A sad day --- Started out with alot of promise .. but not a report anyone wants to see or write..

perfect conditions am
-------------------------------------
wind e @ 5
water 66
air cool 60
-------------------------------------

looked like this past weekend could be a last shot @ Weaks..
got everything together and was out @ the crack of dawn..
warmed up the motor as usual - everything fine...throttle up slow and steady to 4500..cruising.. 15 min in and the HOT water ALARM SCREAMS... not a big deal as this has happened every season on the S-shore eel grass waters..

dropped it down to idle , cleared the intake ( not much there) and waited for the Hot light to go out...still had a the tell tale working ...

never happened..hot light never went off-- 5 min later a second Alarm and the Check engine and oil light come on...and now the timing belt
starts to slip...and then slips badly as I limped towards the ramp......only got a short distance before - I just called TowboatUS to come get me..1st time in 8yrs..I have be trouble free for nearly 3000 hrs...

6:40am - So I anchored up and put out some lines...and wouldn't you know it -- WEAKfish ON! - a little 13" fish... but I have to consider this trip a success as well...my goal is always to just see one...and even anchored in 7ft .. I had another bite on a plastic as well..with the 2 fang mark evident..

40 min after I called a very nice TowboatUS rig showed up... towed me back it - out by 9am
-----------------------------
total:
1 Short Weak ( 13")
1 bite
-----------------------------

threw it on the trailer... back to the drive way ..checked it out closer.. clack - clack clack from the top end and a slipping timing belt just might be it for the season..Sad..

So I unhooked it and put all my fly gear & spin gear in to hit the surf..

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Back to the N shore and fishing by Noon.. took both rods today,..
haven't spin fished from shore since picking up the fly rod.. only did because the wind was in my face..
when it died out by 2:30 .. went back to the fly..
tons of snappers around and 1 little bass ...many many bite offs
----------------------------------
total:
1 Schoolie Bass ( 17")
20? Snappers ( 12-15")
bites bites bites -.... especially with the fly -- the snappers were batting it around all the way in..
----------------------------------

very nice day and I thought about those weaks all day and then some.....even now..

Well I had a good long season on the boat - but looks like I will be Yak , shore and charter bound 'til spring..
Funny thing is, I told my wife 3 weeks ago that I was thinking about repowering in the spring or upgrading to a more modern truck...looks like the motor decided for me.

SB ~ Quick trip in the Weds WIND ~ 9-15-10

SB ~ Quick trip in the WIND ~ 9-15-10

Had a doc app for a follow up on my Calf Strain... All ok - clean bill ..and just enough time to get to the water for a boat ride...
Wind looked nasty before I even hooked the boat to the truck..

to the water @ 4:20 pm

-------------------------------------
high @ 6-15 pm
sunset @ 7pm
water 68 @ the ramp
air 72?
WIND - Heavy out of the WNW @ 18-20 - gust to 25-30
-------------------------------------

even the back bay had a chop...NG...
tried to find a spot .. but the wind found me everywhere... and I had a wind Against tide drift.. terrible.. never had a good set up.

managed a only snapper bite off..many...water churned up like a muddy bath or GSB coffee color..

6pm decided to take a Peek out front... nice big 4-6' but wide enough to just get out there... but not far..
every boat that came out -- turned right back around... stuck it out for a few rockin drifts... and had some blues blitz for about 15min

just bite offs and follows by small 15-18" fish................... " THIS just Isn't worth it"

done @ 6:35...

I should of yak fished the lake... oh well..

-----------------------
total:
1 small blue (14")
15 bite offs...
2 follows..
-------------------------
lots o rockin in the angry, angry sound

GSB ~ 1 day Last summer WEAK end ??? ~ 9-11-10

GSB ~ Last summer WEAK end ??? ~ 9-11-10

a whole week passed ....things change fast this time of year...the fish were gone last year around now...so you never know until you GO..

so I went -- ONE weak -- just need to see one... a little worried about the wind..coming on too strong early..
saw slight rippled water upon arrival @ 6:15am...hmm..we'll see... just need it to hold off for a few hrs..

and it did.. felt like I only had a few drifts before it turned on HARD....well it never did..which made for a GREAT drift (.7-.9mph)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
water 67-71
air - cool 57am - 78pm
wind - NW - to NE 7-10... steady all day except when it switch @ noon to the NE
low @ 8am ish
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

10 minutes into the 1st drift - FISH on --- FLuke?!?!!>? Little 14" fish..

next drift ... ........WEAK! yeah ! short 15.5" ...some are still here...

for the 1st few hours a slow steady pick of shorts and Fluke...mixed in....about 12 shorts in 2hrs..
I thought I had a my 1st keeper Weak @ 8:30 -when it ended up being an 18" fluke..when you are catching 13-14" fish... this felt nice.
as soon as I saw no flash - I knew it was a fluke..

picked a small keeper about 17" -- lost @ the boat,,,, more shorts now @ 18 or so ... then finally
another bigger fish hit @ 1030ish - nice fish 22" ..released..
I really was looking for a large fish today only... hoping to break the 7lb mark( dream boat mark)...I know high hopes... but I wasn't keeping anything but that..

a few more shorts ....and 1/2 later -- another Keeper weak..21.5" ...released..

hung in there.. even with the boat s-- ALL HUGE .. going crazy by 10:3o now..it was relatively calm until then,,. and the fish slow considerably by then...had bites ...
and even a fish on the last drift -- but I was done getting kicked around by wakes...fin @ 1pm

a great day that I didn't think would happen again... really feels like I have been fishing the same day ( like Ground hogs Day) over and Over..and it's been great

even the picture look the same..but I'll Take it!

--------------------------------------------
total:
3 Keeper Weaks ( 17" , 21.5" 22")
23 Short Weaks ( 13-15.5") many fish 15"
6 Short Fluke ( 10" - 18") most 14-15"
1 Blue ( 17")
5 Blue claws
3 shells
---------------------------------------------

The ONLY place to be today for me----------- Never forget ----

GSB ~ 2 day Labor B-day WEAK end ~ 9-5/6-10

GSB ~ 2 day Labor B-day WEAK end ~ 9-5/6-10

=======================================================================
Sunday 9-5-10 ~ 1.5 hour rock'n chop slop
==================================================================
Could nt wait to get back out there to see if Hurricane EARL pushed the weaks out for good...it's only been a day since he blew just south of us .. so they should still be around?...

50/50.. always.

on the water just before sunrise 6 am... forecast was for 7-18 knot West wind... so I figured I had the am before it got bad..
----------------------------------------
Wind LOTS of it.....Wnw @ 20+
water 69-72
high @ 8:45
air - 58- 75
----------------------------------------

Well I had the am for about 10 min...then the wind started to build quickly ....too quickly and soon I was amongst nasty white caps and drifting @ 2+ mph..
it was just one of those days were you just got to hang it up.. stayed for 1.5hrs and it was too long -- just wanted to see a fish.. any fish.
Not one bite...
smashed over the tops of waves and surfed em back...on the trailer by 9am..

------------------------------------------
total:
NADA
------------------------------------------

hopefully tomorrow will be calmer for my B-day weak trip,,.,

pd

===============================================================================
9-6-10 Labor day - Bday -------------------awesome day
===============================================================================
Told my wife the night before that I wanted a fish dinner today...she said - " you had better catch some then!" OK!
watched they weather closely the night before...and was restless in the am as I set out under darkness-- calm so far - same as yesterday am.. but a little calmer..

Looked calm as glass as I arrived ...on the water by 6:09 -- perfect! ha
under way - like a lake...very good.

--------------------------
Wind Zero - 3mph?
high @ 9:30ish
water 69 - 74
air 60- 80?
---------------------------------

had a semi steady - but slow as mud drift W.@ .2-3mph..a few bites thought...which is great compared to 24hrs ago...

fish on @ 6:23 - WEAK - yeah! I just love weaks on my b-day...so happy relaxed and tried to put the bite together....did very well for the 1st 1.5 hrs today..
many shorts - but still the fishing was good - a double header as well..and a Northern king mixed in ...
about 16-20 Shorts in...
830ish..I finally had a bigger fish.. landed a Nice 21.625" Weak keeper for dinner..already had the King in the box to keep em company

breezes for minutes @ a time form all direction..N S NW SW W... crazy drift all am...but fish were still biting..if I had a better drift I think it would of be a crazy bite.. but I didn't care..as the boats were light and the wind was lighter..
had a blue on plastic -- bit off @ the boat..about 1 hr later -- another blue...when I boated him he spit up my Plastic! same fish..harassing me - so in the box he went..he also spit up one of my peanuts and a sand flea( alive) -- So used the sand flea and had 2 short weaks on it almost back to back with in minutes of it hitting the water,,,

bite slowed by 10:30-11 as the boats started and I spun like a top as I was rocked by wakes fro near and far...Labor day stampede was on..
lasted until 12:20- and that was it -- I even had a Weak right then, but it was enough.. a great b-day and calm seas on the ride back.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
total:
1 Keeper Weak ( 21.625") 3.15lbs
27 Short Weaks ( 12"-15.5")
1 Northern King ( 13.25")
2 Blues ( 11 -12")
5-6 female Blueclaws - not one male,,
3 old oyster shells
------------------------------------------------------------

did not
really expect them to be around - Hoped
but glad I found em again.. this pefect day was the perfect gift!
