GSB- WICC weak end- 8-25-13

GSB- WICC weak end- 8-25-13

-WICc north
Time to go south
-Plus the Battle on the bay today
But great news as they moved it to Long Beach ...
West Sayville seafood fest this weekend as well a lot of other things...
Seems like all of these will keep people away from the gsb.

For cast was for light winds too .. Nice and it was

Pulled out at 630 .... Even stopped for a coffee n aspirin n still made it to the entrance by 655 ...as they were just opening! No Charge either!! Bonus !

-----------------
Water 73-75
Air 60 am - 80by noon.. Nice
Wind .. Sw @ 5-8 flat clam
Low @ 8 am
------------------

Stopped for 10 min this time on my way .. Just one hit on the jig...
Didn't bait up ..

Took off quickly
To the spot by 740
Hidee HO only othe vessel on scene .. Just the two of us all am
1st drop ... Fish on it 3 bounces - small fluke...
Next drop in ... 2 min later nailed a nice keeper 20" to start
Used the New 7'6" xtra fast action mh Bass Pro rod I was supposed to return 4 months ago but never mailed ... So I gave it to myself as a early b-day gift
Worked really really well jiggin
9 am nailed a 21" weak n the saros 2500 on it ground to a halt
1st time I have ever had one burn up...????? Not sure how either..gears stripped?? Drag still worked but just wouldn't crank
.. Had to put it down n when I did
It the bite died along with the reel

Eeked out a bite but I should have split by 10
Ended up leaving by 1050 n hop scotched a few spots for nada
Which put back to port - 1115
Started to feel crappy by 1030
Glad I split instead of going elsewhere ... It was pretty flat ..4k @ 24 mph ride back..

Total
------------------
5-6 18-21" keeper weaks
10-12 16-17" weaks
15+ 14-15" weaks
1 short fluke 16"
2 snappers 14"
--------------------
- smashed the trailer fender/ light @ the gas station in hurry to leave this am ... Duh
- min boat traffic
- had the place to myself by 9am - surprised... Possible because the fish are spread out through out the bay in pockets here n there .. N n south .. East n west .. Just gotta find a good pile

Nice day on the water - nice sky
A little bright but nice breeze kept it cool enough for green HH pants
Long sleeves n jeans ...

August? Very cool August

2003 BLACK OUT ~10 years AGO today ~ 8-14-13

NPR asked Where were you...?

@ Marshall -left early
drove home before the mayhem..no lights working made for interesting driving habits
HOT - very HOT - very Humid..lived @ 14 3rd street
Jill and I sat on the stoop.because it was so hot.
went to the corner where a coffee truck was selling goods..
only lights in the area..pitch black..

so glad I wasnt in the city that day..

The Northeast blackout of 2003 was a widespread power outage that occurred throughout parts of the Northeastern and Midwestern United States and the Canadian province of Ontario on Thursday, August 14, 2003, just before 4:10 p.m. EDT (UTC-04).[1] While some power was restored by 11 p.m., many did not get power back until two days later.[2] At the time, it was the second most widespread blackout in history, after the 1999 Southern Brazil blackout.[3][4] The blackout affected an estimated 10 million people in Ontario and 45 million people in eight U.S. states.

The blackout's primary cause was a software bug in the alarm system at a control room of the FirstEnergy Corporation in Ohio. Operators were unaware of the need to re-distribute power after overloaded transmission lines hit unpruned foliage. What would have been a manageable local blackout cascaded into widespread distress on the electric grid.

Went home and had a rough am,_=dizzy light headed tough to stand
Overwhelming

But got the dead tree chopped up into firewood
Also got the garden Jill planted in Early mid May
Harvested -- funny looking veg misshapen
Kiss carrots were cool
Not bad for a 1st try

SB ~ Back on the Shore ~ 8-4-13

SB ~ Back on the Shore ~ 8-4-13

It's been awhile ... Since 5-19
I've had a series of family issues / health prob hit all at once
It's kept me and will keep me off the waters more than normal this year n maybe next
I miss it dearly but had to get out
Today .. Just for some soul cleaning if nothing else

----------------------------------------------------
Air 79-80 ( 48 %humid)
Wind NW Stiff 10-15+ great breeze! Perfect with the outgoing tide.
Water 73-75
High 10:30am
-------------------------------------------------------
Beautiful bright sunny day, comfortable temp, nice breeze/ wind....this is August ? Right? Not late Sept..
So nice { 2 weeks of this weather is unreal..}
Wish every day was like this.

Hit a spot I love – been fishing it for 20+ yrs So it was the perfect place to go. – walking through , winter did a number on it..
- August + mid day bright sun – so wasn't expecting too much bass acton..
But I was wrong ---
I guess the fish missed me too
No size to speak of
But it's exciting to have 13 fish in a row and pretty consistent action
For 3hrs

At one point i Had a huge 3 foot bass or blue? Chase my hooked 17" schoolie
Right in front of me and turn away..always an exciting/promising thing to see bigger fish when u least expect it.
Tried to entice the bigger fish But didn't happen - nice to see though

Stayed about an hour longer than I should have and the last fish was a big robin – which I was more than happy to see.

Thanked the good Lord for the time and waded out @ 4pm
Really just didn't want the day to end...
-------------------------------------------------------
Total
18 short bass 16-20"
1 big robin - big winged
Millions of snappers chasing 4-6"
A few missed hits - bumps
---------------------------------------------------------
- rod wrap worked very well
- used a sideways retrieve today to keep the weeds off
- haven't fish this spot since last year.. It's so different. Degraded, eroded

Awesome afternoon - perfect
Really Just what I needed .

Nice to feel a little normal for a while

Hard times ahead
Don't know when I'll get back to the shore - hopefully sooner
Just got to go – night trip??

Shoot a few prayers my way
I need em
