Summer Weaks -- 8-23-08

With the WICC this week up North decided it would be a good time to go South.....especially if the chance to get weaks is good --.....heard the summer run has been good...-but you never know what you will get. heard this last year and had nada..

up @ 6:15am --really wanted to be @ the baitshop @ 6...hmmm..late..fished last night so still had to put everything together...should have preprepped it instead..always forget something..

went to get worms --What???-no WORMS???..Said they were not big enough to carry this time of year..hmmm
.ok..squid , clams..berkley worms..and anything else I could get...

in the water by 8:30am
-------------------------------------------------
low @ 9:am.
high @ 3pm
water 80ish
air 80ish ( 60s in the AM) bright day UV8
wind 10-15 SW--this made the day what it was..
-------------------------------------------------

I was really overjoyed by the wind..so happy it was breezy..made for a PERFECT drift..and kept me cool..
prepped squid @ the dock..on way..
1st stop...hoping...nada..moved..2nd stop..
Fish On! - WEAK ! alright ..tiny but still a weak..
now I could relax..and little did I know. this would be
an out day long bite ...very consistent with very little lows..weak after weak..most 14-15"...about 5 fish in --Bam nice 23.5" ! kept for the table..

just plugged away @ them all day....4-5 a drift..plus many other Southshore Only species ..a blow fish.and Kingfish aswell as Fluke Snapper and a SUrprise BIG BLUE (29") I thought it was a big weak..drag screaming--hit the harvey teaser--big head with scars all over it and is color was fade..might have been sick...
about 11am--another Keeper just 17" released..
rewarded 1 hr later with a 21.5" keeper..
was planning on leaving @ 1pm but the bite just keep going..I just couldn't leave..

had 2 More Keepers mixed in--18"@ 2pm. and 20.5" @ 3:30..

done @ 5:15 pm as the bite finnaly quit..

just unbelievable Day for me..I have never caught so many weaks.. So happy I went.
---------------------------------------------------
total:
5 Keeper WEAKS ( 17", 18", 20.5", 21.5",23.5")
52 short Weaks (Most were 14-15")
8 Snapper Blues ( 8-10")
1 Big Blue ( 29")
5 KingFish ( 15-17")
2 Fluke (14", 15")
1 Northern puffer (9")
---------------------------------------------------
only the 2 larger weeak kept for the table..
- Not as many boats as I thought..traffic was semi light and didn't show in force until 11am
- Many planes flying Low... INCLUDING a squad of WWII flying in Formation - about 5 ft off the deck --fying right @ me I got some good picts( will post later)
- had the spot to myself too..unreal.
Still can't believe it..what a day ..home @ 6:50...just in time for the Jets/Giants preseason..

Wow. long day ..
