Henry -----------------------------1-15- 09

Lost my little guy Henry today-
had to put him to sleep due to Kidneys Failing.

Sad time - Such a great cat- I will miss my little fishing buddy.

but a day that still had good news for 155 people and many families...air 20?....water 32..brrr.

a plane ditched on the hudson @ nearly the same time we were saying goodbye to him....

ALL souls survived - 1st time in Aviation History. :
---------------------------------------------------------------------
THE whole plane jerked and shuddered.

Pilot Chelsey Sullenberger switched on his two-way radio and said two words: "Bird strike."

Moments later, about 3.30pm New York time, US Airways flight 1549 bound for North Carolina dropped out of the sky and into the icy Hudson River.

When the Federal Aviation Authority confirmed that all 155 passengers and crew had survived -- mostly without injury -- New York Governor David Paterson declared: "We've had a miracle on

the Hudson."

Survivors last night told of their miraculous escape, heaping praise on the cool-headed pilot who saved them.

The plane, an Airbus A320, left La Guardia Airport and went down minutes later, according to US Airways.

"Sully" guided the 73-tonne aircraft towards the river for a smooth belly-landing.

So controlled was the drop that witnesses thought it was part of a Hollywood script.

"I heard a rumour it was part of a movie shoot," said witness Ben Vonklemperer.

"It looked like any routine landing except that it was landing in water."

Survivors clustered on the wings of the sinking wreck in temperatures as low as -3C, while ferries rushed to them.

Survivor Alberto Panero, who said his pockets were still dry, recalled hearing a loud bang just after take-off.

"The plane shook a bit and immediately you could smell smoke or fire and the plane just started turning in another direction," he said.

"All of a sudden, the captain said 'Brace for impact', and that's when we knew we were going down into the water."

He said passengers grabbed inflatable seat cushions and life vests, fearing the worst.

"I was expecting something to launch forward and kill me, but nothing," Mr Panero said.

"At first there was panic, then a couple of people took charge and started yelling for everyone to calm down.

"It felt like a car crash. There was the impact then it was just 'get out, get out now'."

He said smaller rescue boats managed to get right up to the plane door.

"You could just literally jump off into a boat, never hit the water," he said.

"Somehow the plane stayed afloat and we were all able to get on a boat.

"It's simply incredible that everyone's alive.".

Survivor Fred Berretta said: "The engine blew out then the pilot turned around and made a line for the river. There was silence, everyone was waiting for the pilot to speak.

"A few minutes went by and he said 'Brace for impact'. Then we went into the water. You could smell the smoke.

"It was a near-death experience. I was sort of weighing up what the chances were of surviving a water crash."

Passenger Jeff Kolodjoy said everyone heard the left engine blow out. "We said, 'Oh, man, we're going to hit the water'.

"There was a lady with a baby trying to crawl over the seats and I just said, 'Women and children first'."

Ambulances, fire trucks and police vans clogged Manhattan's midtown west, causing traffic chaos as emergency services flooded the scene expecting heavy casualties.

But only 78 people were injured, none seriously. The dozens treated at hospitals suffered cuts, grazes and hypothermia.

Driver Teirney Santiago said he saw the plane skimming the surface of the river at a speed similar to traffic on the motorway he was on.

Police helicopters hovered as four large ferries and several smaller boats came alongside.

The Coast Guard dropped lifejackets.
