Offshore Oddity: Lucanus Lures
I’ll be the first to admit that before I read Bob’s feature on this great new fishing system, I didn’t know much about it at all. After you read this one, you will understand it completely and know why this relatively new jig system has proven itself over and over again in the world of offshore and inshore fishing. story

Think Rio, and the recent World Cup matches of 2014 may pop into your mind. Think ahead to 2016, and the Summer Olympics may conjure up the second largest city in Brazil, where the events are to be held in Rio de Janeiro
The Massachusetts Division of Marine Fisheries is soliciting opinions from recreational anglers regarding striped bass management issues for 2015. According to these folks the recreational catch has taken a serious plunge (75%) and the management people want some input on what to do about it
The Cape Cod Times recently published a story noting that as of the third week in August, striped bass is still on restaurant menus and being sold in fish markets. That's a situation that hasn't existed for six years and with 33 percent of the total striped bass quota — nearly 368,000 pounds — still left to be caught, it appears restaurants may be able to keep stripers on their menus right through the summer, maybe into fall
"They're closin' down the hangout The air is turnin' cool They're shuttin' off the superslide" The kids are back in school The tourist traps are empty Vacancy abounds Almost like it used to be Before the circus came to town"(When the Coast is Clear)Well, Mister Jimmy Buffett sang those lyrics when he played his annual New England gig over at what used to be Great Woods Performance Center, now known as The Tweeter Center, which lets Parrot Heads everywhere know that summer is officially on the wane. But I didn't need the coconut telegraph to tell me that because when I came downstairs to grab that first cup of morning coffee the living room thermometer read a crisp fifty-nine degrees
As I wrote this, Suffolk Police divers were searching for a missing kayaker on Lake Ronkonkoma who was reported to have fallen out of his kayak, popped out of his life vest, and then disappeared below the water's surface two days earlier. As someone who does a fair amount of kayak fishing in various settings, I started thinking about how many things had to go wrong for this person to be lost
Unless you live under a rock, you probably know some of the world's best anglers visited our area last week to vie for the Bassmaster Elite Series - Delaware River title. South Jersey's own, Mike Iaconelli, was the favorite going in and most of the local fish-heads were rooting for "Ike" to bring the trophy home
The latest newsletter from the Massachusetts Division of Marine Fisheries included a description of new regs aimed at improving the management of the commercial striped bass fishery. The following is excerpted from that source:Effective 2014: New Rules to Improve the Commercial Striped Bass FisheryThis past winter, MarineFisheries and the Marine Fisheries Advisory Commission proposed a suite of regulatory revisions to the management of the Commonwealth's commercial striped bass fishery
The Catskill Fly Fishing Center and Museum is located on a 35-acre parcel in Livingston Manor, New York, along the banks of Willowemoc Creek. Acquiring additional acreage through the years has increased the property to 55
Even though Massachusetts will see little or no effect from the law it recently passed, still, it became the ninth state to criminalize the traffic in shark fins. Governor Deval Patrick signed the new restrictions into law outlawing the removal of shark fins (often while the animals are still alive) although it exempts locally caught species including skate, smooth hound sharks and spiny dogfish from the regs
The PENN Battle II has been awarded the Best Saltwater Reel Award at the 2014 ICAST show in Orlando, Fla. The popularity of the PENN Battle spinning reel family continues to grow as anglers recognize the durability and fishability found in this finely crafted reel
